A young woman named Miranda Cain, who graduated from Marysville High School, in Kansas, this year, has been in jail since early June. She had been given a scholarship to Washburn, in Topeka, and was a very good student. She volunteered for efforts in Marysville that were favored by the community, and everyone touted her as a lovely and wonderful child. She was even recognized for something called "distinguished service".
The reason that Citizen Cain is in jail brings up a disturbing question about Marysville High School and "distinguished service". Cain is awaiting trial for prostitution and human trafficking. She is also accused of recruiting an eighth grader for her teenage prostitution enterprise. Schools in Marshall County, Kansas are very unkind and nasty to any child who does not originally hail from Marshall County, and a principal in a Marshall County high school actually told a parent that "protecting the culture" in the schools from "outsiders" was very important. Yet Cain, of Marshall County, Kansas, was accepted with open arms....also, apparently; with open legs! So; what, exactly, is this "distinguished service" that was performed by Citizen Cain?
Culled from the Marysville Advocate
If its any clarification the other people involced were junkies. Meth users who have a history of this kinda thing. It wasnt suprising to me, but i knew the people she was associating with, and I wasnt shocked. When young woman get involved with drug users ten years older then them, its a waste of their potentional. But having once been where she was, I pity her. Not blame her. She made her choices, and they were hers, but. ..i just find it tragic.
ReplyDeleteI understand, but I am also looking at the adults involved in her life; the folks who let all the signs and symptoms go unheeded. My children are not drunks or dopers, yet the school board at USD 364 was unwilling to allow my kids to transfer there, after a criminal assault by a teacher at Frankfort to one of my children, because they thought there "culture needed to be protected". Now, I am wondering if they knew about the crime, and didn't want me to find out and report it.....exactly what it is, about the "culture", that Marshall County wants to "protect"?
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is time for ALL of the public schools in Marshall County to go into receivership.
Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you think you and your family are perfect then maybe you shouldn't even be worried about other peoples business. You do not know all the facts nor do you have the right to judge anyone. Innocent until proven guilty!!! I wonder if others judge you the same as you judge others...
Actually, I don't live in a glass house. Where I am from, indiscriminate sex with meaningless partners is discouraged, and this is the first time I have ever heard of a high school senior recruiting a younger child for something like this. The one time someone tried to throw stones at my family, our "house" was solid. The stones bounced back. It isn't about being perfect; it's about safety, and apparently, Marshall County has some unaddressed problems in the area of safety for children. There are only about 10,000 people here; for something like this to occur even once is a terrible statement about the mores of the population. Of course Citizen Cain deserves a trial, that is her right. That's why a trial is on the court docket for her.
ReplyDeleteThis is no longer the personal business of Citizen Cain, or her family. Once a criminal matter is bound over for trial, it becomes a matter of public record. Even Cain's arrest was a matter of public record. And you know what? The public has a right to know! Every parent who cares about his or her children needs to know that there are students like Miranda Cain at Marysville High School, gaining approval from teachers and school administrators while preying on younger children and destroying lives. It is vital that parents know, in order to protect their children. We can all clearly see that Citizen Cain was either able to pull the wool over a lot of eyes, or the eyes belonged to adults who could see, but had their own "reasons" to allow her to continue in this behavior. No; no one has all the facts yet. In fact, the prosecution probably does not have ALL the facts.....that's why we have a court system. No one has "judged" Citizen Cain yet. If she does not plea, I am sure that a jury will.
As for others judging me as I judge others, if I go on a crime spree, I will probably have a day in court, too. The same goes for you, if you decide to go out into the real world and get noticed for criminal behavior. Did you send your note to the Marysville Advocate, WIBW, KNDY, and MSC, who also wrote some odds and ends about this? They have bigger audiences than I do, you know.
Did you know the innocent child you speak for is on a diversion for sexual misconduct in Shawnee County and that's why she moved back to Marshall County! I got that from her mother, where do you get yours from? Definitely not anyone's Mother!!!!
DeletePraying for Miranda ..
DeleteI hope she grows on the path God sent her on.
She has always been a wonderful person. .
It amazes me how we forget the Lifetime of GOOD that people do.
We seem to feed only on mistakes.
Satan saw Miranda being drawn to the Darkness and we ALL are victims of Temptation.
Just know GOD IS IN CONTROL, not BLOGGERS..
JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED...

Who spoke of an "innocent" child? And why would a child's past justify an adult's serious misconduct? Is that the excuse all the grownups involved in public schools in Marshall County (faculty or students) use to justify the criminal victimization of any child who isn't valued? Nice going! Fortunately, the FBI and federal court has heard it all before......that's a tactic often used by defense attorneys during rape trials. Bring up any dirt in the victim's past, and blame the victim.
ReplyDeleteRecognize the problem for what it is, wake up and see the need for things to change, and stop trying to justify someone who, as a very young ADULT, saw fit to violate EVERYONE'S trust.
By the way, if the information about the child is true, yet unpublished, there's a distinct chance that it ISN'T true, and there's also a distinct chance that it ISN'T public information, like the information about Citizen Cain. If it is true, it would be what is known as a "separate case", having nothing to do with Cain, or the fact that she is on the docket to explain why she appeared to think that sex, even from minors, should be an item that is for sale.
Amen!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Even the 8th grader has had thousands of sexual partners it doesn't excuse any adult to prostitute out a CHILD !!!
DeleteAnd by the way, at least one journalist for print media who has written about this IS a mother, and many prosecuting attorneys and investigators are mothers, too. Your point?
ReplyDeleteI see both sides here and I agree only to protecting our children. My daughter graduated with Miranda Cain, at one time were close friends. Knowing her family I would not put blame there. Are they perfect? No but mine isn't either. Miranda made decisions that I would bet my last dollar on that she regrets making. Hind sight is 20/20 we all know that. But in the same regard it does not justify her actions or decisions. As for the school administrators. ... the school itself has major issues. My son struggled for two years, low grades and quitting every sport due to having to prove something because he wasn't from Marysville. Since we moved his grades are much better, he has nothing to prove and he is much happier. I do believe kids are treated differently by some not by all, if they are not from Marysville or Marshall County. I pray for everyone involved here and hope they can heal.
ReplyDeleteTo justify, said child has never had any sexual charges against her.
ReplyDeleteKristy, what do you mean by "both" sides? Are you saying that Cain might have had some sort of justification for this behavior? She should not need 20/20 hindsight to know that it is immoral to "pimp" an underclassman. That said, I don't think her family is at fault, either.
ReplyDelete"What is the point of holding a grudge? To forget the good and reminisce in the bad. What is the point of forgiveness? To remember the bad but honor the good." Kidd Luck
ReplyDeleteMiranda may have done a bad thing but if you keep reminding her and everyone else of nothing but the bad thing that she has done that is what she will become. If you let her move on she could do good in this world.
She made a mistake. Everyone does, some more serious than others. That just makes us human. News flash, your not perfect. Im not perfect. The only perfect human beings on this earth are the ones in their mothers wombs.
I f you reminisce in the bad that is what this world will come to. If you want to live in a world that is safe for you and your children this isnt the planet to be on. Good luck finding one. It is human nature to do things wrong, that is why we are always improving the things we have today.
I don't think anyone with whom I've conversed is "holding a grudge", as you say. While Cain is not a child, and was of legal age when she was charged, she is still very young. When a young person knows how to go through the motions of human trafficking, and deems it appropriate to sell something that was never intended by the Gods as a marketable item, it definitely says something about that young person's community. Marshall County has operated on a sickening system of double standards, injustice, and corruption for quite some time, now. You can point out the vast corruption of more heavily populates areas, but the per capita percentages of Marshall County's corruption is actually greater, simply because there are fewer people per incident. All this, in a community that bashes any person who isn't Christian. You will just have to accept the fact that I, and a few others, are offended by Marysville's perversion. With that, I hope that Marysville can look at itself objectively.
ReplyDeleteAs for forgiveness, I am not a God or a Goddess, that I can grant such a thing. In fact, I don't even thing Gods and Goddesses are involved in the cancellation of Karma. The school board of USD 364, Marysville, was unkind and uncivil to me in a certain matter, so please do n0ot be surprised when I find myself feeling incredibly grateful that their own highly touted achievers are recognized for for what they actually ARE; not for what the administration of Marysville High School SAID they are! As for "forgiveness", why should I? Why should anyone? It isn't as if Marshall County was nice to me, or to my children, after I married someone who lived here! I have never met a bigger bunch of under socialized racists anywhere, and I have lived in several places in the south! I think Marshall County should wear its label, provided by Miranda Cain and her "distinguished service", until it apologizes to everyone who has been on the receiving end of its unlawful crap over the past ten years or so.
ReplyDeleteDo you suppose Citizen Cain is actually sorry, and would have wanted "forgiveness" if she had not been caught?
As someone who was a long time, very hard drug addict in some of the worst possible slums in big cities, I thought I had seen it as bad as it gets as far as teen pregnancy rates, addictions, hatred of outsiders or anybody different, poor schools and most every other indicator of a bad place to live. That is until I moved to Marysville. No I am not from Marysville, and for those who say "if you don't like it leave", believe me that will happen ASAP. The blog owner is right on the money in what she says about the discrimination against outsiders here. Sometimes the truth hurts, especially when you have are you from here and form your "facts" only based on what you see about other, bigger places on the news.
ReplyDeleteI do not know how Marysville is discriminative but that might be because of how small the community is. I moved to Topeka and felt like an outsider. Two years later I still feel like a bit of an outsider.
DeleteIt has more to do with simple ethnocentrism than it has to do with size. Marshall County Kansas is filled with waspy Christians who demand that everyone else be a carbon copy of themselves! They don't even care if a child has to be molested by Christan clergy in order to become that way!
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer: I know it's not everyone. It's simply a significant enough number to make it a problem.
We all get judged every day. "God" knows that I am not a filthy Marshall County Kansas human trafficker, and that I do not think sex should be for sale, especially from eighth graders. For that reason, "God" does not think I am a dirty, filthy human trafficker, like your Marshall County Kansas friend, Miranda Cain. Because of what has been interpreted as intent, I am of the opinion that Citizen Cain did not make a "mistake", per se, unless you count getting caught as her "mistake". If so, please stay the hell away from my children.
ReplyDeleteYou talk about the "good" Citizen Cain did, yet you fail to identify it. The title of this post is a plea for Marshall County to just come out of the closet, so to speak, and DEFINE distinguished service! Your response is yet another failure to do so!
As for wonderful people, there is one sub-class of people who probably do think Citizen Cain is wonderful, and that is her clientele. I, on the other hand, do not think she is wonderful, and protecting my children from her "culture" at Marysville High School in Marshall County Kansas is of utmost importance to me.
Why would you defend her crap?
"Satan" saw Miranda being drawn to darkness? Are you effing serious? Please believe me when I tell you that "the devil made me do it" is not a valid defense in court. You should also believe me when I tell you that the victims of human traffickers matter. If there really is a "Satan", he's got you completely manipulated. Try thinking, for a change.
