Another Disgusting Cop Story

Detective Erin Thompson, of the sheriff's department in Shawnee County, Kansas, has found her way to a paid vacation because she falsified evidence in criminal cases she investigated. Specifically, it was discovered that she stated that she had spoken with witnesses when, in fact, she had not. Now the Kansas Bureau of Investigations is investigating Officer Thompson and a number of cases that were tried in court, hinging on the false information given by Thompson.

One such case is involved the death of a five month old little boy named Caleb Stewart. His mother left him at daycare and went to work, only to pick him up at the hospital after he died at daycare. He had been placed in a closet on a dogbed, and when the unofficial "volunteer" at the daycare found him, he was not breathing. She did not dial 911, but called the actual babysitter, instead. Paramedics were not summoned for at least ten more minutes. The babysitter's boyfriend was "unofficially present", and the daycare had lost its license to be a daycare......facts which were not disclosed to Caleb's parents.

Erin Thompson did not find anything criminally amiss in the scenario. Neither did Chad Taylor, the District Attorney in Topeka. His office hung up on anyone who called with questions about the case. Many questions were never properly answered in Caleb's case, and discrepancies between the findings of the autopsy and the statements made by those present when Caleb died were never explained. Hopefully, when the Kansas Bureau of Investigations conducts its probe of Detective Erin Thompson's cases, they will find some answers for Caleb's parents.

Jesus Appears In Kansas Tree

So now we know where Jesus actually lives. He lives in a tree, outside of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, in Topeka, Kansas. No kidding, that's what some folks actually think. They think it to the extent that they called the local news station to report this phenomenon, and the local news station actually reported it! Of course, it is quite obvious that the excitable Christians in Kansas have it all wrong, here. That is not Jesus Christ in the tree; the face in the tree is clearly that of Jim Morrison of the Doors!

Litterbugs In Topeka

After riots in Ferguson, Missouri and prior to the dispositions of charges against violent police officers in Baltimore, Maryland; and also, concurring with a church shooting in South Carolina that not only killed nine people, but was done for racist reasons.......Topeka, Kansas has a problem with littering. These pamphlets were found on lawns and affixed to vehicles in Topeka.

According to KAKE, the telephone number listed on the pamphlet is non-functioning, but several people who have dialed it beg to differ.

Senator Clementa Pinkney, also the pastor of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina was among the slain. Will flags be flown at half staff?

Topeka Looks For Suspect In Attempted Child Kidnapping

On January 13, at 5:45 PM, after getting dropped off by the school when their after school program was over, two sister, ages seven and eleven, were almost abducted in Topeka, Kansas by a man they had never met. He actually put his grubby hands on the younger of the two, and told them that he wanted to take them to "play barbies" (whatever he meant by that) with his child, and that he lives at the Rescue Mission. The girls both started to scream and attract attention, and luckily, the man was spooked enough to give up and run away. He has been described as white, in his late forties, with a medium build and short brown hair. He has a tattoo on the back of one of his hands. Anyone who might be able to identify this person or who saw the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 785-234-0007.

Perhaps it's time for USD380 in Frankfort and Centralia, Kansas to establish a protocol for situations involving children who go missing after school.

Yes, There Really Is Stranger Danger In Kansas

When will Kansas learn? Here's a twelve year old, who actually got away from an adult who tried to take her away, but with whom she was not familiar. The man even tried to intimidate the girl by slapping her across the face! Stranger danger. This happened in Topeka, and this child was extremely lucky.

Maybe it's time for USD 380's school board to rethink their situation with Tom Schroeder, the Frankfort guidance counselor/cross country coach who left a high school freshman girl by herself four miles away from school and didn't bother with a phone call to the police or to the girl's parents when he realized that she was missing. Unless his actions were deliberate, and ulterior motives played a role, this kind of carelessness should be reserved only for the families of those who support Schroeder's continued employment, not for those of us who love our children. Of course, if he intended to leave a child in a vulnerable position, awaiting some darker fate, as the stranger in Topeka obviously had in mind for the girl he tried to abduct, Frankfort, Kansas has bigger problems.

Another Kansas Republican Racist

Yep, we have another Kansas Republican racist running for Congress, and this one is the pastor of a church. Reverend Cordell Fischer's wife posted a picture of Darth Vader on her husband's Facebook wall, and made a nasty comment to the effect that nonwhite fathers do not take care of their children, or some such nonsense. "First Black Guy To Admit He's The Father", is the exact quote. It seems that most white Kansas Christians are racist; that's no big surprise; however, Cordell Fischer appears to be a liar, as well. He took the post down when it came to his attention that there are people in Kansas who might not vote for him if they think he's an unintelligent racist, but blamed his wife for posting it! Yet the screen shot clearly states that he had insisted that she share it on his page. Also, Fischer apologized for "whatever it looks like to the public".

Fischer should be interested in knowing that "whatever it looks like to the public" is Kansas racism as usual. As for his church, which is a non-denominational congregation in Topeka, it appears that his racist spouse is something called a "children's pastor" within the hierarchy. Since there is no warning of bigotry and racism on the church's website, it seems that both of them simply take such attitudes for granted on the part of any potential parishioner. All the more reason to avoid christianity in Kansas.

Hopefully, the pastor's wife was able to find the fathers of her own progeny.

When An Amber Alert Is Issued

Lately, a few people from various parts of the country have expressed doubts in the sincerity of law enforcement in their communities because Amber Alerts are not always issued when children go missing. It's always comforting to know the police are actively seeking a missing child, but some people continue to question why Amber Alerts are not in place for each case. Two recent cases that stand out are the Sarah and Jacob Hoggle case, of Montgomery County, Maryland, and Samara Herrera who was missing for much of the day in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday, September 20, but who was successfully located without an Amber Alert.

The Amber Alert system is a great tool for public awareness when a child disappears. The criteria for an Amber Alert is very strong evidence that the child has actually been taken by an unauthorized adult, and a reasonably accurate description of the adult and the child. A description of a vehicle is also necessary; if possible, with the tag number. This helps give the general public an idea of what kind of transportation they should hope to see, and it gives law enforcement a reason to look harder at any vehicle that matches the description. Quite a few children have been found and brought home because of Amber Alerts.

An Amber Alert would not be helpful in the Hoggle case, because the car that was used to transport the children away from home was returned to its owner, the childrens' grandfather, and police have no further information concerning vehicles used by the childrens' mother. Likewise, in Samara Herrera's case in Topeka, no known vehicle could be reported to law enforcement, so that identifying information could not be used to compile an Amber Alert. At the same time, however; police bulletins have been broadcast extensively for both cases. The absence of an Amber Alert does not mean that there is any absence of search and rescue efforts, or an ongoing case, should the child remain missing.

Sharing photos of missing persons, along with the contact information of the police department handling their cases, is still the best way for communities to assist in missing persons cases, even in cases that do not fit the criteria for Amber Alerts.

Naked Man In Topeka Raises Issue

Only in Kansas. Seriously....in Topeka, there happens to be no law against public nudity. This means that in addition to the antics of Westboro Baptist Church, there are also people who occasionally go about without clothing. And WIBW interviewed a naked person named Jerry Beyer, who is featured in the video above. One must wonder if WIBW truly needed to use the vernacular "raised the issue" in the introduction of the subject, and a reader commented that this particular naked person likely is without enough in the way of productive pursuits in life, such as employment. Indeed, for employment , Jerry Beyer would require an appropriate wardrobe, as most employers have dress codes that at the very least, involve clothing. Kansas.

Chad Taylor Drops Out Of Senate Race

Chad Taylor, (D) District Attorney of Topeka Kansas and Senate Wannabe, not to be confused with Chad Taylor, guitarist in Live, has dropped out of the race for Senate in Kansas. This is good news, as this blogger will no longer be faced with the choice of voting for someone who actually tried to stop prosecuting domestic violence in Topeka and still has not filed charges in the death of Caleb Stewart, a baby who died in a Topeka daycare; or the choice of voting for republican Pat Roberts. It looks like the choice is now between Pat Roberts, and Independent Greg Orman.

Caleb Stewart's Case After Eighteen Months

How long does Kansas take to investigate a complaint about a daycare? How many reports of abuse, injury, or untimely death do they need in order to justify the expenses involved in gathering information and making a quality decision about who gets a license to operate a daycare, and who does not? According to the latest information, brought to us by WIBW, the death of a child will bring an investigation and a decision in about a year and a half. That's how long it took Child Protective Services in Kansas to substantiate the charges, concerning a wrongful death, finally brought against Tara Johnson, the home daycare provider; and Destiny McClusky, a random friend of Tara's who had no real business in Tara's workplace.

In February of 2013, five month old Caleb Stewart was dropped off at daycare by his mom, Misty Durham. Later that day, he died. Tara Johnson was not on the premises, which she should have been, and her boyfriend, Russel Morris and the aforementioned friend, Destiny McClusky, were watching the children. Anywhere besides Kansas, this would lead to charges and a lawsuit. As is stands, Johnson, Morris, and McClusky probably do not have the assets to settle a lawsuit for wrongful death, and since Kansas was allowing this daycare to operate without a license and failing to substantiate the complaints that led to the situation that cost Caleb his life, Johnson's daycare was not covered by insurance, either. But then, about ninety-five percent of public schools in Kansas did not have insurance when school started in 2013, either.

Chad Taylor, the prosecutor in Topeka, Kansas, has declined to press any charges at all in this case. He presses charges when the children of richer, better connected parents die in daycares, but not Caleb Stewart's death. Taylor even retaliated against Misty Durham by having her arrested for an old traffic violation when she called his office to ask about the status of the case! Does he think that forcing different social classes to exist in Kansas and denying justice to people he simply doesn't like are going to get him elected again? And is child protective services in Kansas really attempting to protect children? Or do they only respond when they find children who are alive and marketable, and whose parents don't know their rights and cannot afford legal representation?  How many other children have been in harm's way during the eighteen months it took them to glance at Caleb Stewart's case?

Michelle Obama Will Speak In Topeka

How lucky can this year's graduates of Kansas Unified School District 501 get? Michelle Obama will speak at their graduation! Usually, Topeka's high schools have their own graduations, but this year, there will be a joint ceremony for them on May 17. Michelle Obama will speak in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of Brown v. the Board of Education in Topeka, the landmark court decision forcing schools in Kansas and the rest of the nation to stop racial segregation in schools and allow everyone to attend. 

Something all public school administrators and teachers in Kansas need to remember and discuss more efficiently with students is that the State of Kansas was in the wrong in that lawsuit. A black family decided to challenge the unlawful, racist lifestyle that made all those pink, fluffy, white Topekans very happy back in 1954 and challenge racial segregation in schools. No doubt, if Dean Dalinghaus, principal of Frankfort High School in Frankfort, Kansas had been the defendant, he would have told parents the same thing he told the parents of Frankfort High's valedictorian last year: "We do not encourage the children to learn very much about the Constitution because it's easier to run the school smoothly without teaching it". Yes, a public school principal in Kansas said that, as recently as last year. The comment was made by a pink, blue-eyed, bald, white high school principal, who encourages children to bully any child with a disability, and any child whose parents do not identify with mainstream christian whiteness as enjoined in the Midwest. 

Kansas has resisted a lot of the equality and progress enjoyed by other schools since Brown v. the Board of Education by refusing to consolidate it's public schools and make them all answerable to the State of Kansas, rather than to tiny school boards in "unified districts". The unified districts do not have to follow any state laws, and thumb their noses at federal laws as often as they can get away with it. If schools disbanded the unified districts and consolidated, they would be more organized, and students in Frankfort would have the same opportunities to take drama or a foreign language as students in Topeka. Children who are good writers could take honors English, which is not offered in many smaller Northeast Kansas high schools, instead of being blackballed as "dangerous" for writing  petitions and going door to door for signatures. Kansas also needs to remember how very welcome Westboro Baptist Church has been over the years, conducting their picketing campaign. Many native Kansans do not think they have anything in common with Westboro Baptist Church, but other christian churches, in Kansas are almost identical, only lacking the publicity enjoyed by Westboro. New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas, teaches that law enforcement should shoot anyone who identifies as gay. Teenage church members then attend local public schools and bully any gay child, with Reverend Curtis Knapp's blessing. Also, while discussing discrimination in Kansas, we must not forget that Republican congresspeople in Kansas recently wasted everyone's time passing House Bill 2453, a pathetic attempt to legalize unlawful discrimination. The Senate took one look at it and tossed it in the circular file, but if it had passed, it would have given businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies the right to refuse service to anyone perceived as "different" in some way....using faith and adherence to the christian religion as the basis for the discrimination. A skin complexion or religion seeming somehow "unbiblical" to a Kansas emergency room nurse could grant her the right to turn away a sick child. A pharmacist could refuse to fill the sick child's prescription for antibiotics because the bible says to hate certain minorities. Schools would have the right to turn gay students, black students, and any other student failing to be pink, fluffy, white, and conformist away. So much for Brown v. the Board of Education in Topeka. Kansas is still looking for ways to break the law and stay as vile and prejudiced as it was in 1954.

Au Revior, Reverend Phelps

On March 19, 2014, just before the stroke of midnight, the renowned fire and brimstone preacher, sometime civil rights attorney, and great granddaddy of all sign carriers, Reverend Fred Phelps, of Kansas, drew his final breath. He was only eighty-four years old. He started his career as an attorney; back in the day. He even won some battles for progressive and noble causes, such as litigation against Jim Crowe racists, who lurk all over Kansas. It is unclear exactly when Phelps became completely disillusioned with the cause of Light, and switched over to the dark side, but sources place this sometime in the early 1980's. It is rumored that Phelps noted that his grandchildren were not as safe playing outside as he wished them to be, and felt that Topeka had not lent an acceptable amount of support in the arena of cleaning up Gage Park, in Topeka, and policing the area more efficiently. It is easy to understand the desire to protect one's children, but to date, no one outside of Westboro Baptist Church has been able to find the correlation between protecting children from stranger danger and hate campaigns against minorities and picketing funerals.  Readers in Marshall County, Kansas will be interested to note that Fred Phelps graduated from the same school that produced Laura Johnson-McNish;  Washburn University.

Amusing but not surprising is the request from Westboro Baptist Church for privacy while they mourn! Considering the history of Westboro Baptist Church, that is certainly an interesting request. Christians all over Northeast Kansas tend to make similar requests, however. Anyone who is not a mainstream neo-nazi christian thug is considered fair game for everything from slander to violence, but when the tables are turned, Kansas Christians are never able to understand why the First Amendment applies to all American Citizens, not just white christians and government employees.

The Hague Convention And Kansas Christians

Lisa and Don Jenkins, of Topeka, Kansas, decided to purchase a few more children. This time, they wanted to buy some young people from another country. They prayed about it, as per the practice of their church, and decided that a couple of Ukrainian children would be just the ticket. So they bought their tickets, and off they went, because; according to friends and churchmates, "god" had told them to adopt Ukrainian. While they were in that country, all hell broke loose, and Congressman Pat Roberts, of Kansas, had to place a phone call to the Consulate to inquire about the safe return of the Jenkins family. Northland Christian Church also set up a fund, to bankroll their extended stay in the Ukraine, merely to wait for passports for their newly purchased human beings; and used local news stations, such as WIBW, to promote this shameless "beg for bucks" effort.

At surface levels, international adoption seems innocuous enough. In certain instances, it can be a wonderful arrangement. At other times, such as when Dr. Timothy Monahan and his wife, Jennifer, bought a kidnapped and trafficked child in Guatemala and refused to return her according to the court order from Guatemala, international adoption can be shady, black market in nature, and a very sad form of human trafficking. The only way to protect all parties, natural parents, adoptive parents, and children, in any adoption is to make sure the laws in all countries and states are followed, and to pay attention to all of the details involved. Anyeli, the little girl held hostage by Dr. and Mrs. Monahan, of Missouri, has a mother whose life has been shattered because of kidnapping and human trafficking, and she will never get her child back because the Hague Adoption Convention had not been signed by Guatemala until 2008, and Anyeli was kidnapped and auctioned off in 2006.

Fast forwarding to 2014, the Hague Adoption Convention is up and running, and has been signed by eighty-nine countries. Ukraine is not one of them. As such, it is a country where an improper adoption, possibly resulting from a lack of agreement by both biological parents, a kidnapping and illegal sale of a child, or falsified medical history can fly under the radar, and no affected party is guaranteed recourse of any kind. It is both odd and interesting that Lisa and Don Jenkins have chosen to adopt Ukrainian under those auspices, and that their church, Northland Christian Church, has used local media to snow the public into thinking that these people are "doing something wonderful" and to send money to them! Au contraire! If the Jenkins family were truly concerned about children, why did they deliberately choose a country for their shopping pleasure that had not signed the Hague Convention? And why wasn't Northland Christian Church open about this? It is certainly legal for the church to support their members in adoptions that are legal, provided; of course, that they are in fact, legal; but when the church decided to publicly beg for bucks for this effort, instead of advising their parishioners to simply come home immediately, shouldn't they have included the information that the Ukraine has not signed the Hague Adoption Convention? And WIBW does not mention the Hague  Convention, either. A phone call placed to WIBW produced a conversation with a station employee who was unaware of the Hague Adoption Convention, the Hague Convention, or the general legal issues surrounding adoption and focusing on the best interest of the child.

Luckily, the Jenkins family converged upon Kansas International Airport on Saturday, no worse for the wear. From the outside looking in, though, their choice to adopt in a country that has not yet taken measures to protect the best interests of any child in an adoption proceeding seems a bit suspect. Hopefully, everything is fine, and the adoptions involved are all above board, but Northland Christian Church should not ask the public for donations without proper explanation of all the facts, and WIBW should have done more research about international adoption and human trafficking.

Addison Mikkelson Goes To Court

Addison Mikkelson, the seventeen year old Topeka youth who enjoys filming and recording police officers on duty, has begun his tour of the judicial system. A couple of days ago, he had his first hearing, wherein he entered a plea of not guilty to jaywalking and inattentive driving. Hopefully, Addison will insist upon a jury trial for the jaywalking charges. That should make a district judge's day! The police in Topeka are only posturing and attempting to ruin Addison's future, anyway. Appearing impromptu on camera adds up to accountability, and any police officer who cannot cope with accountability should find another line of work.

This is beginning to look a little like Abbie Hoffman's trial in 1968 for conspiring to incite a riot during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Abbie and his friends were demonstrating against the involvement of the United States in the Vietnam War, and got arrested, despite the fact that they had a permit. The trial began on September 24, 1969 and lasted until February 18, 1970; at which time Abbie Hoffman and his cohorts where found not guilty. Their demeanor on court dates during the trial, however; was a different matter. All seven of them, and a couple of their defense attorneys, were found guilty of contempt of court for their creative self expression at intervals during the whole process. One day, Hoffman and Rubin, a co-defendant, wore judge's robes to court. When Judge Hoffman (no relation to Abbie Hoffman) ordered them to remove their robes, they complied, revealing police uniforms under the robes. Throwing Abbie and et els in prison....yes, prison....for contempt of court may have merely been a means of saving face for a district court that had a problem with satire on the parts of the defendants while on trial and of those pesky "not guilty" verdicts on the part of the jury. Trying young Addison Mikkelson for jaywalking appears about as silly.

Isn't it grand to know that law enforcement in Topeka Kansas is protecting all of us from young, amateur photographers? Don't you feel safer, knowing that all those dangerous jaywalkers, or at least those who pose a threat to abusive police officers, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law? After all, Addison Mikkelson, pictured at the top of this post, looks like a very scary kid, doesn't he?

What About The Baby, Chad Taylor?

Chad Taylor, prosecuting attorney in Topeka, Kansas, pretends that he is really fighting crime by ignoring student safety issues and other problems in Kansas schools, then charging seventeen year old Brendan Steven Moore, of Topeka, with four counts of solicitation of first degree murder as an adult. When a baby actually died last year, in a Topeka home daycare, he could not even bother to read the reports and statements made about the incident. To this day, anyone who calls Chad Taylor's office in Topeka Kansas and asks about the investigation of the death of Caleb Stewart will not get an answer. His secretary generally hangs up on anyone who asks that question. If Chad Taylor really cares about crime, why doesn't he find out why Caleb died, shut down all daycares and schools that do not take child safety seriously, and question the last adult to have any contact with Caleb before he coded and was rushed to the hospital?

Why is one Topeka child's death important enough for legal action, while another's is not? Where does Chad Taylor draw the line? Does he only care about the children of parents whose jobs are white collar? Is it college graduates, but no one else, who elicits his concern when a baby dies? Does it matter how long the baby's parents have lived in Kansas, or how likely they may or may not have been to vote for him? Because other cases, involving similar deaths, have been investigated, and tried in court. According to information that is courtesy of the Kansas Child Death Review Board, daycare deaths of children in Caleb's age group usually occur because of sleeping arrangements. Caleb was sleeping in a dog bed, which had, according to one witness, been placed in a closet! Has Chad Taylor even taken an afternoon to sit down with Caleb's parents and discuss the opinions of the Kansas Child Death Review Board with them? It's really starting to look as if he is only willing to jump on whatever bandwagon will net him the most publicity. A child creating a ruckus at school with threats faces Taylor in court, tried as an adult, on charges of solicitation of first degree murder, because this type of case has been in the eye of the media, nationwide, lately. Not quite as many cases involving babies who do not survive daycare while both parents work become photo ops for folks like Chad Taylor.

At least sit down and talk to the other children who were at the daycare that day, Chad.

Kansas Cops And Addison Mikkelson

Such insecure police officers. Beating up older women and breastfeeding mothers in Kansas hasn't satisfied law enforcement's hunger for violence; now they are after children! Seventeen year old Addison Mikkelson had a new camera the day before yesterday. He went out to take pictures, and settled on an arrest that was being made at a Kwik Stop in Topeka, Kansas. No one had a problem with Addison and his camera; he was on the sidewalk. Just as things were winding down, an unoccupied cop approached Addison to snoop at his ID and express annoyance and paranoia at being caught on camera. Another idle officer soon joined. When Addison asked why his ID was necessary, the cop put his paws on the camera. Addison asked him to leave it alone, and the cop kicked it. Then he picked it up, and promising to handle it carefully, put the camera down in the snow. Believe it or not, there are actually a few Topekans who think Addison still owes respect to law enforcement in Kansas! Sorry, Kansas, but respect is a two way street. It has to be earned, and these officers did not earn this teenager's respect.

The two wannabe swat team dudes then decided to arrest Addison. Now he has been charged with obstruction of justice. They cited jaywalking as his crime, yet arrested him for something completely different. Should jaywalking be a crime that carries jail time in Kansas, and should a teenager be plucked off the street by violent cops for jaywalking or for using a camera?
 

It's Legal To Walk Around Naked In Topeka

That's right; you did not misread the title. There is no law in Topeka Kansas against public nudity, as long as one does not disrobe in the vicinity of a school. A guy was discovered naked in Topeka a couple of days ago, and while he is in a psych ward now, he will not be arrested.
 

The police thought the naked guy might be on drugs. Perhaps. According to Chuck Haggard, of the Topeka Police, "“Running around naked is a very common thing to occur for people who are in a drug-induced excited delirium,” he said. “We have way more naked people than you have any idea.”
That's interesting, but yours truly would like to know where all the naked people are when she visits Topeka, and why she misses all the cool and apparently legal stuff!

Chuck Haggard further states that "The man, whose identity wasn’t released, was said to be in stable condition as of 8 p.m. Wednesday." What remains unclear is if the man was clothed as of 8 PM Wednesday.

A Way To Help Victims Of Silver Lake House Fire

A house burned to the ground in Silver Lake, just outside of Topeka, Kansas on Sunday night. Luckily, everyone is okay, but all of the family's possessions were lost. Silver Lake High School is accepting donations of certain items to try to help the family. The school is accepting donations between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM on weekdays.

The family’s clothing needs are as follows:
■ For Greg, the father, extra-large T-shirts and sweatpants.
■ For Heather, the mother, size medium shirts.
■ For Melissa, a junior in high school, size medium shirts, size 9 or 10 pants, and shoes in a 7 1/2 or 8.

Tragedy Averted In Topeka

Six year old Crystal Canul, and her eleven year old brother, Josias, saved a two year old neighbor girl from drowning in the swimming pool at their apartment complex yesterday. The little girl had gone out the door behind her parents' backs, slipped off her shoes, and tried to swim by herself. When she found herself in water that was too deep, Crystal noticed her distress, and she and her brother rescued the little girl, then dialed 911. Now she is fine, and has been released back to her parents.

 

 

 

Witten Children Of Topeka Found Safe

The three missing children from Topeka, Stephanie, Seth, and Michelle Witten, were found safe while playing in a creek after having been missing for almost twenty hours. It appears that they ran away from home, as they had camping gear and clothes packed in backpacks. Their adoptive parents had left them alone, and they apparently are not happy where they are, so they ran away. The three are biological siblings, and were adopted in 2007. Perhaps they missed their real family. I saw an interview with the adoptive parents, and they did not seem terribly concerned about dangers such as child predators or kidnappers. In fact, they stated that the oldest of the children had run away at least once in the past, and seemed resigned to the routine. Perhaps someone should ask these children why they are so unhappy, and why they continue to run away. Just being a pair of white, blue-eyed, normal to slightly low IQ Christians does not mean that a couple will be ideal parents. Granted, Kansas prefers this.
