Hanging In Effigy

Once upon a time, in January of 2012, to be exact, the Republican house speaker in Kansas, Mike O'Neal, emailed a "prayer" for then president, Barack Obama. The text from the bible, Psalm 109, was, "let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow." He thought everyone should pray this prayer for America's President. There were no accusations of violent threats, even though this is clearly a threat of murder. President Obama was a gentleman about it, and ignored Mr. O'Neal's stupidity and rudeness.

Fast forward to March of 2017. Racist America has elected Donald Trump to be president, and Donald Trump does nothing but sign racist edicts, such as his two failed travel bans, and tweet at America on Twitter at 3:00 every morning, sharing everything from his silly-assed feelings to national secrets. In response to all this, musician and singer, Snoop Doggy Dogg, created a video in which he shoots a very trumpesque clown, which he calls "Ronald Klump." 



Donald Trump has complained about this video, saying, "Can you imagine what the outcry would be if Snoop Dog, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!" Seriously? After the actual death threat to President Obama that was written and emailed by Mike O'Neal, in Kansas, brought no consequences at all, Trump really thinks that the exercise of first amendment rights and satire would bring jail time to someone else, if President Obama was the target? Snoop Dogg's video is the equivalent of hanging in effigy, which, along with flag burning, silly cartoon drawings, and photo shopped pictures of elected officials, is protected speech. Trump needs to understand that he is in America, and he needs to understand that the Constitution protects all Americans. After he begins to understand those two things, he needs to grow up.

More Racist Pigs

Minnesota certainly has some vile pigs, doesn't it? The one who "detained" Diamond Lavish Reynolds and handcuffed her right after her boyfriend was murdered is Joseph Kauser. The one who murdered Philando Castile is Jeronimo Yanez. Neither of them would allow Castile's mother near her son before he died, or allow her to talk to Reynolds. Both pigs were also very casual about killing an innocent man directly in front Reynolds's four year old daughter.

To Diamond Lavish Reynolds: I wish I could have been there to hug you when you got out of the car. Joseph Kauser was crass and beyond rude to manhandle you and handcuff you, especially after someone you love had been murdered. Thank you for your courage and persistence. Without you, the whole world would not have had an important wake-up call.

To all of those who still refuse to see reality and who still lack empathy: The Whole World Is Watching.

ACLU Guide For Snapping Pictures In Public

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about snapping pictures in public, especially of police officers while they are eating doughnuts and beating people up....er...working. Police officers will often tell people that it is not lawful to take pictures of police officers when they do their jobs, and will even confiscate cameras of bystanders and arrest journalists and reporters when cameras have clearly caught police officers with their pants down. But the truth is, taking pictures in public is perfectly legal. On private property, one must have permission of the property owner in order to take pictures, but in public, one may snap pictures of anything one can see. Police may not confiscate anyone's camera or SD card without a warrant, and police officers have even been brought up on charges of tampering with evidence for doing just that. The American Civil Liberties Union has published a guide for photographers for reference.

Pictures of police in action, taken by citizens, provide an independent record of the photographed or recorded incident. Such evidence reduces the prevalence of faulty memories and lies, and is important for transparency of those who represent authority. No one should have to worry about police confiscating photographs or cameras, and no police officer should do anything in the line of duty that he or she would not want photographed.

To Mike Slager's Filthy Mother

"I know they are grieving, just like I am grieving." The mother of a south Carolina cop who killed a man thinks she is grieving just like his family. I am offended by this. Listening to her words, in the video, I hear her express shock that her son was charged with murder, but not shock that he would aimlessly kill someone. She is upset because her grandchild will be born while her son is accounting for his violent, and most likely racist, behavior; but has not said one word about the personal impact on any member of the family of her son's victim. She's really shocked because she always expected her son to get away with whatever he chose to do, and she really thought the victim in this case did not matter. She is stunned that her own grandchild will do what she set the stage for him to do: be born with daddio in jail! If she had taken the time to teach her son values, morals, justice, and not to consider himself a privileged racist, her grandchild would not be in this position.

Mike Slager's disgusting example of an egg donor also does not want to watch the cell phone video of her son shooting an unarmed man. Why would that be? It's only a bit of video footage, taken by a witness, that conflicts with the untrue stories she taught her son to tell, whenever the truth is not convenient. Didn't she know that if he carried a weapon, a day would come when the racism and the dishonesty he learned at home would combine into a situation such as this? Of course she did. She just didn't care. After all, she taught her son that it's his privilege to do whatever he pleases. The hell with anyone else's life.

Another False Arrest Lawsuit In The Making

Here's some cell phone footage taken by someone who was harassed by law enforcement in Sandusky, Ohio. The man was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for no reason. Since he was not the driver, he was not required to show identification, and the police had no business asking him for any. Yet they, and when he refused to play their games, the drug dog was summoned. The police also threatened to give his two week old baby to child protective services. What is not shown in this video is the actual arrest for obstruction of justice followed by the man getting tasered. All because he sat quietly in the car while the driver got pulled over.

On Tuesday, Officer Denny, the racist, pos cop, was put on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation that would never have been initiated without the victim's cell phone video. Folks, the minute you get pulled over, the cell phone needs to be put in video mode. You may think you are white enough, law abiding enough, sober enough, ect., to survive a police officer who is paid to supply privatized prisons with laborers and privatized foster care systems with newborn babies to sell to the highest bidders, but money has to be made some way. This officer thought he had a legal way to traffic defenseless humans.

Your Tax Dollars At Work In South Carolina

This is Kayla Michelle Finley. She just got arrested in Pickens, South Carolina. The reason she got arrested is a video she rented from a place called Dalton Video, which no longer exists. The video in question was rented, and then not returned, in the year 2005. This, of course, (eye-rolley, here) provides probable cause for an arrest for petty larceny, without even checking the statute of limitations or the availability of witnesses; and very, very worthy of the prosecutor's time and the taxpayers' money. 

If I represented South Carolina in Congress, I would ask the court in Pickens County for a list of all child support scofflaws and demand to know why a woman who forgot to return a rented video was prioritized above people with current yet ignored court orders to pay child support. It really looks like South Carolina has some cops who are afraid to face real criminals, and look for people who are not dangerous in order to justify the space they take up on the public payroll.

No Shooting In The Police Station

 

Addison Mikkelson, who was arrested over the holiday for obstruction of justice because he took some videos and pictures of Kansas law enforcement in action, returned to the police station in Topeka the following day. He wanted a copy of the video captured by law enforcement of his arrest. While he is, in fact, entitled to the video, his arrest changes the auspices of his entitlement. Information pertaining to or resulting from an encounter with a government entity that is just an encounter, and nothing more, can usually be obtained by written request citing the most recent update of the Freedom of Information Act.  Unfortunately, Addison was charged with a crime here, and law enforcement's video record of the event has become evidence. Addison, or his lawyer, must now subpoena this evidence, and if the case against him goes forward, Addison will be allowed to examine it. The court, rather than either party, has a certain amount of control over the evidence and it's uses until the charges are disposed. The uninvolved officer with whom Addison spoke has no authority to release evidence in the case to anyone. Ah.....kids!

If the police station in Topeka Kansas seriously wishes to forbid or limit any filming, a sign should be posted on their wall, stating that permission must be granted prior to filming or recording. It seems that a lot of police officers lately, despite the public aspect of the job, have been extremely camera-shy. While the interest in footage of abusive cops is undoubtedly growing, most civilians do not take exception to police officers caught doing their jobs professionally and courteously. When an officer is caught on camera behaving like a thug, and proceeds to behave even more like a thug upon finding out that he has been caught on camera, there's a problem. Addison Mikkelson obviously has a pastime, and hopefully a passion, for catching police in action on video; hopefully, he has the heart, soul, and good fortune required for this type of activism.

Shooting a documentary of the "history" of the police station in Topeka, Addison? Seriously? That's the most amusing thing I've heard all weekend! You should have just said, "Smile! You're on Candid Camera!"

When Cops Kill People In Front Of Your Face

It might be a better idea to dial 911 and only give a location and very brief description of the situation, when reporting lethal police brutality, rather than explaining that the police have just beaten someone to death. Ask for an ambulance, describe the brawl, but don't reveal that law enforcement made the whole thing happen. If the dispatcher knows the police are beating someone to death, he or she is very likely to allow the beating to continue until law enforcement calls. Certain targets are chosen in advance, and will receive no help from emergency dispatch. Once the ambulance arrives on the scene, capture the response on video. If the police do not immediately cease and desist their battery of the victim, and move aside for paramedics, that footage should be copied and turned over to the FBI, the local media, and to the general public for scrutiny. Under no circumstances should it be kept private. Even a victim who is lucky enough to survive has a responsibility to cancel law enforcement's free ticket to beat their chosen targets to death.

Crows Are Smarter Than You Think

This video was shared on Facebook. Crows are very smart, and have even been found to recognize human faces. Hopefully, this one learned to avoid porcupines.

That video is hysterically funny! But the savvy pet owner will take this a step further, and attach a small camera to his pet's collar! That way, the dog, hiding or not, can get his own footage of any police activity on private property, or anywhere, for that matter! It's a whole new concept in accountability of law enforcement! Streaming video from a camera on a pet's collar to a the cell phone, Ipad, or computer of a third party might actually take a sizeable chunk out of brutal attacks by police officers. The prosecutor in Marshall County, Kansas would have to scare and bully defense witnesses all by herself!

 

Maybe a day will dawn, during my lifetime, when law abiding citizens will not have a need to install their own checks and balances when dealing with law enforcement and the judicial system.

 

 

Advice Concerning Police And Civil Rights

This was shared on Facebook this morning. There's a lot here, so I just shared it as a picture. I would only add a few things. If the police stop anyone, not only do you have the right to photograph and document everything you see, you also have the right to video the encounter. Quite a few police officers do not yet understand this. We have a police officer with Marshall County, Kansas who will even grab telephones, both landlines and cell phones, out of the hands of bystanders to stop children from calling parents and to stop neighbors from calling babysitters and relatives when children are left by themselves as the result of an arrest. In addition to not consenting to any warrantless search of your person or possessions, I would advise that you carry as little personal information on your person as possible. Do not carry you social security card in your wallet, but leave it in a safe place at home. You do not have to give your social security number to law enforcement; cops are not loan officers.....they do NOT need that information for anything! Just tell them you do not remember the number. Only carry one form of identification. If you have a passport, drivers' license, and other types of ID, you only need to have one in your wallet at a time. The less information had about you by law enforcement, the safer you will be. Concerning law enforcement and the rest of the current judicial community, it is best to live among them as in surrounded.

 

 

More Violent Cops

David Silva, of Bakersfield, California, was beaten to death earlier this month by eight police officers. Apparently, he was unconscious outside of an hospital, suspected of being intoxicated. Instead of taking him inside the hospital, it looks, on the footage taken by onlookers with cell phones, as if the police simply began to batter Silva with clubs, and did not stop until he was dead. Then, as a finale, they grabbed the cell phones and camaras upon which witnesses filmed the event, and even chased down a couple of witnesses at their homes to confiscate any footage and threaten anyone who might testify.



 That action of grabbing the cell phones of witnesses reminds me of the cop in Marshall County, Kansas, who, with no concern for the law or with my physical safety, grabbed me in an attempt to stop me from calling the mother of someone he had just arrested to go pick up the children who had been left by themselves. The same police officer also assualted my daughter, and also by grabbing a phone out of her hand, when she tried to call her dad during an incident wherein he was bullying an innocent person. He would not allow a seventeen year old to call her dad.

 It is not, and never has been, unlawful to film and record law enforcement in action. If a police officer is not doing anything wrong, he should not worry about public perception of his actions. And as for calling a child's grandmother because the Marshall County Kansas cop arrested a mom and insisted upon leaving a five year old and a seven year old alone, I will do the same thing again, if necessary.
