Pool Is Free For Students Enrolled In This Particular School

Interesting. The pool here is open for free to any student enrolled in the local school. But all other children have to pay. That's okay; I went ahead and bought a pool pass for my kids. But why, school, do you need a gimmick to bolster enrollment? If your school did not have teachers who engage in inappropriate physical contact with students, buy cigarettes for students, or abandon students outside of town, see http://siriunsun.blogspot.com/2011/04/child-safety-and-kansas-schools.html , I would already have enrolled all of my kids, and would not be considering a different school for them. Just some food for thought, school faculty. I may not be from your state, or from your silly little neighborhood, but I have a rather big family, and my children represent a significant minority of your student body. If enrollment is down, while plenty of kids live here, what could possibly be reasons for that?

That's right, interpret an honorable gesture as a gimmick. That's right, make accusations against faculty and staff who work above and beyond the hours they get paid to teach your kids. If you spent more time helping your kids and less time attacking those that do you just might be surprised by what can happen.

I did not "damn" the entire staff in my post, and it DID look like a gimmick to boost enrollment! And maybe, one day, you will have a range of abilities and intellectual levels among members of your "brood" that will challenge you. Perhaps you can "inherit" several children who have been abused and neglected before your presence in their lives. Before you accuse yours truly of not "helping" (whatever you mean by that) her kids, you gotta remember that yours truly walked into a bigger handful than any of those teachers have ever dreamed of. And inasmuch as accusations against staff are concerned, nowhere else in the nation would anyone on a school staff be allowed to "lose" a student outside of town. That was wrong. Completely wrong. The school probably will try it a few more times......sigh...... (not with MY children, though) and I hope never to be surprised by what can happen. Seriously.

I do believe that the teachers have "a range of abilities and intellectual levels among members of" their "brood" that challenge them. They also "inherit" numerous "children who have been abused and neglected before" their "presence in their lives". Wow...that's a lot of common quotes :) Maybe with a few changes in your thought process we could be on the same page!!

Seriously.

I know what you are saying about teacher "inheriting" challenges among their charges at school. But I did not get my degree in teaching or psychology, and I deal with inherited challenges 24/7. I'm a person who breastfed and never took an aspirin or smoked during a pregnancy, either, Or smoked at all, for that matter, and these are challenges I never, ever thought I would have to face. But I do it, and the children involved have learned to do things their natural parents were told they would never do, so I do not think I deserve your negativity, here. And I doubt if you and I will be on the same page until you have been on your own for awhile!

And you pick and choose which comments to post....interesting!

Juli Henry said...

I sure do. No cuss words. No threats. And no trashing of my character. And if I get half a dozen comments that basically say the same rude thing, I will just address everyone in one post, if I think it's worth it. But if you wanna do something, like prove me wrong about all this, and if you work at the school, why not study what other, better school districts do and try to learn from them? I have some legitimate gripes about education here, and I am speaking up about it. If you don't like what I say, and more importantly, what I PROVE, why not just be a good person, help make the school a good school, stop approving of dangerous, prejudiced, and immoral practices, and be part of a possible solution instead of hanging on to stuff that you obviously do not like to see in print.

Just curious.....why do you send your children to a school you continuously condemn? Wouldn't all of your problems be solved if you sent them somewhere else? That does sound like the most logical way to handle things.

Juli Henry said...

The thought has crossed my mind! And it's not out of the question. But only a couple of them want to change schools, and each kid has a slightly different position in this matter. Why do you ask? Would that be somehow more pleasing to you then seeing the problems I have described corrected at the school we are talking about? Ya see......you are wrong: the EASIEST way to handle things would be to evade the issue and send them to a different school. The most LOGICAL way to handle things would be to realize when you are doing something horribly dangerous or wrong and cut it out.

LOL. You really are entertaining! Just think of what you could do with all this energy you expend on hate! :) Just a thought.

Juli Henry said...

Hate? If you see it that way........but you HAVE inspired me. I gave up on making other Kansans aware of these student safety issues, but I think I will renew my efforts.

Sure. Ok. I had this same discussion with my daughter. I don't care who evaluates the schools in Kansas. First, Kansas does not, in any way, measure up to schools in places real colleges and companies look for promising candidates to fill positions, and not nearly as much is expected of Kansas students as is expected almost everywhere else. I do not know if this reflects the abilities of Kansans, or if it's the work of folks like Brownback, but sadly, the phenomenon exists. I am also disappointed that nationwide, so much less is expected of students by comparison to the dark ages, when yours truly was in high school.

Kansas is ranked fourth in the nation on average scores on SAT and ACT. Colleges use ACT and SAT scores as a consideration for acceptance. Being among the top four in high scores means they must be expected to know more than most schools everywhere else.

Juli Henry said...

With what considerations? Because if you stick a kid from Kansas and a kid from somewhere like Maryland or Connecticut side by side and test them on the SAME material, Maryland and Connecticut will come out ahead. Sorry.....that's just the way it is. Now; if you want to tell me that Kansas kids are mastering their OWN material as well as other states are masterting their OWN material, the arguement becomes different. Keep in mind, most states are NOT interested in teaching creation.

Also, a certain official with Marshall and Nemaha county schools, now retired, told me she didn't understand why anyone in our country needed to learn a second language. One language was just fine, "as far as she was concerned". If you think that statement did anything to boost my confidence in schools in Kansas, please think again.

Move PLEASE

Juli Henry said...

Simply beccause I live here and pay taxes here. And just because idiocy is apparently quite trendy here does not mean that public school should be unavailable to my children. Also, student safety is something that should be much more important, and after all of this discussion on my blog, I feel that I have a resposibility to go forward with everything I have learned about the school district here and broaden the horizens of it's .............shall we say...national presence. The fact that students are not important to school faculties in this part of Kansas in ways that could result in tragedy is not something that should be swept under the carpet. I am stunned at the unbelievable levels of dullness and unawareness.

I must say, if my child were present in the picture above which is associated with such a negative blog about a school district they most likely belong too...I'd be very upset. If those aren't your children, maybe you should consider taking the picture off?!

Juli Henry said...

That picture had already circulated the internet a few times before I even found it, and, along with others like it, had been in print other places too. It would really make no difference if I took it down. Are you telling me you recognize folks in it? How do you know if they are children or not? I really cannot tell, from that picture.

Perhaps I did not fully explain a couple of things, here. I guess letting kids enrolled in a particular school could have been an "honorable gesture", per one of the above comments, but what about the kid whose parents finally found the funding to send him to one of the local Catholic schools, or one of the Lutheran schools? Because of the size of the average town or city in this part of the state, it's possible that said kid is friends has been friends with all the kids at the local public school all of his life. Is he suddenly to be excluded bbecause his parents spent their money on tuition for the upcoming year and not the pool? How's he gonna feel? Then, there's the issue that came up in my home. I honestly considered a couple of different schools for my children. No decision was made until school was about to start. Imagine the pressure a kid could put on a parent, possibly dissueding the parent from making the BEST decision. Multiply that by the number of kiddies a parent has. Or, how about just one kid who would honestly get a better deal from the Lutheran school, but the rest of his/her siblings are in public school, and his parents don't have the funds for the pool and the school. How's that child going to feel when his brothers and sisters get to swim, but he does not? That's part of the reason I found myself crying "FOUL".

i can tell that it is children in the picture above and i like the school that you are talking about and why are you bashing it when your kid(s) obviously like it cuz they want to stay there...

If you attended that school, you were obviously absent the say punctuation was taught.

Three of my kids have already begged me to move them out of there, and school has barely been in session for a week. We'll see how it goes. Since that picture and others like it have been circulated elsewhere online, including facebook pages, what's your beef with me? Do you just not like it when someone wants a school to teach instead of babysit? Chill. I merely don't agree with a few people. Haven't any of you guys ever had someone not agree with you? Geesh!

Did you have permission from each of these children's parents to post this picture on your blog? And yes...these are children, you know that. Respect...you must give it to get it.

Juli Henry said...

The picture, and others like it, appeared in quite a few places in internetland before I got it. Do you know how many times you are recorded on film during an average day? Even at a traffic light, you can be recorded on film, and that film can be shown almost anywhere. No kidding. It doesn't matter who's in it, either. At least this one is not well focused enough to determine who individuals are in it. And no; I do not believe one can tell if everyone or anyone in the pic is a kid or not. If the pic has been all over other websites, including Facebook pages, why are you so centered on attacking me? Is it because I do not agree with stuff that goes on around here? Or are you just a flaming, anonymous jerk?

Juli Henry said...

The pic was actually emailed to me.

I am just a concerned parent. Would you be okay with your child/children's photos being posted?

Juli Henry said...

For all I know, they have been. And you are NOT a concerned parent. If you were, you would not be such a pinhead here on my blog, but you would take this guidance counselor/cross country coach very seriously and demand his dismassal before a tragedy happens, and you would look at the Kansas sex offender registry and flip out in the event that the school is not being very careful. You would also use your name to do these things. You would also have been right behind me when my son was threatened by a neighbor. Whatever you are, it is NOT a concerned parent. Just an anonymous jerk. Did you flip out at the school for publishing pictures taken at the pool, before school started? Or was that okay, because they don't challenge your fuzzy little anonymous dream?
