The Last Turd In The Punch Bowl; Vermont Schools

Addison Rutland Supervisory Union, a Vermont school district, learned an important lesson last week about violating the civil rights of parents. A $147,000 lesson, to be exact. The school thought that a teacher who whined and complained about a concerned father was more important than the community, which included the father, so they barred him from attending any meetings about his child or any functions. They cited teacher fear as the reason, and the behavior they listed was simply the father's normal speaking voice, which apparently was not musically sweet enough for them, and his failure to achieve agreement with whatever silly-assed thingies had become all encompassing to the teachers and the school at the time. This is what a lot of public schools do when they perceive turds is their punch bowls......or, "koolaide" bowls, as the case may be!

A federal judge, on the other hand, determined that the school district was, (drum roll) wrong, and that the school had discriminated against Marcel Cyr. He was NOT required to belong to a protected minority, either; his rights as a member of the community and as a parent had been violated. His position as a parent was determined to be more important than a teachers desire for guaranteed and continued parental agreement. Since the ruling came from  federal judge, this is a bummer for public school teachers everywhere, not just in Vermont!

There was a principal in Northeast Kansas who tried something similar when a parent disagreed with one of his teachers. The parent, a mother this time, found herself in a state of disagreement with a teacher who dropped a female high school freshman off by herself on a highway and left her there; the only occupied house being the dwelling of a sex offender. When the parent discovered the latter, she dropped by the school to ask what protections are afforded children in the presence of sex offenders. She took a copy of the pertinent Kansas sex offender registry page with her. The principal, upon looking at the information, crumpled it, tossed it, and told her that the man was not really an offender! Seriously? The parent had only lived there for about a year, not long enough to peruse the criminal cases of individuals she had not even met, so she felt obliged to take the word of a Kansas jury or the plea of the defendant, himself, as the actual upshot, here. The principal ended his rant by leaning over the counter in the office, index finger extended, nearly taking a slice out of the mother's right eye! Not only did she disagree on many levels, she called the police.

Mr. Northeast Kansas principal ( also called Dean Dalinghaus) got a visit from an officer, who not only wanted to know why he had been so violent, but wanted to know what children were doing, unsupervised, so close to sex offenders and why a child had been lost for the better part of a day with no missing persons report. A whole slew of unanswered questions about school policy ensued, and it was perceived that there may be a "turd in the punch bowl". Since the koolaide previously served by the school to the community involved the lie that there was never any crime, nor any potential for the same, and no dangers that are not necessarily to crime: implementation of child safety standards used by the rest of the nation would never work out in this part of Kansas. So the mother was banned from school. But guess what? The principal's boss decided otherwise, he made the principal apologize! He not only cleaned out the punch bowl of the real turd, rather than the perceived turd, but he also dumped out as much of the koolaide as the local school board would allow. From the looks of things, he may have also saved USD 380 $147,000!

The superintendent of the school district in Vermont decided that if he could not discriminate against dissenting parents anymore, he would just have to take more money away from the children and education to hire an off-duty police officer to stand guard at meetings and other school events. Not only did he throw away the award of the lawsuit, he is willing to continue to throw away childrens' education dollars, over pettiness and perceived turds in the punch bowl.

Another Kansas Republican Racist

Yep, we have another Kansas Republican racist running for Congress, and this one is the pastor of a church. Reverend Cordell Fischer's wife posted a picture of Darth Vader on her husband's Facebook wall, and made a nasty comment to the effect that nonwhite fathers do not take care of their children, or some such nonsense. "First Black Guy To Admit He's The Father", is the exact quote. It seems that most white Kansas Christians are racist; that's no big surprise; however, Cordell Fischer appears to be a liar, as well. He took the post down when it came to his attention that there are people in Kansas who might not vote for him if they think he's an unintelligent racist, but blamed his wife for posting it! Yet the screen shot clearly states that he had insisted that she share it on his page. Also, Fischer apologized for "whatever it looks like to the public".

Fischer should be interested in knowing that "whatever it looks like to the public" is Kansas racism as usual. As for his church, which is a non-denominational congregation in Topeka, it appears that his racist spouse is something called a "children's pastor" within the hierarchy. Since there is no warning of bigotry and racism on the church's website, it seems that both of them simply take such attitudes for granted on the part of any potential parishioner. All the more reason to avoid christianity in Kansas.

Hopefully, the pastor's wife was able to find the fathers of her own progeny.

Being A Sperm Donor In Kansas

Today, in the news, we have here in Kansas a man, by the name of William Marotta, who answered an ad placed on Craigslist by Jennifer Schreiner and Angela Bauer, a lesbian couple who wished to bring up a child together. They needed a paternal parental unit, or, a sperm sperm donor. Sperm donors, as many of us know, are not hard to find.......look in any singles bar. Okay, that observation does rinse the romance and mystique out of this sort of thing, but Marotta, either by turkey baster or by some other means, did, in fact, father a child three years ago with Jennifer Schreiner.

Fast forward to now. Jennifer and Angela are having financial difficulites, and applied to Social Services for assistance. Over the course of filing the application, Social Services was required to determine exactly which adults were responsible for the three year old child. Jennifer Schreiner is, of course, the mother, and as such, is claiming that a de facto contract she made with William Marotta and Angela Bauer absolves him of responsibility and confers it to Angela Bauer. While Angela Bauer undoubtedly cares for the child just as much as she would if she could actually be the father, and lives with the child, the "sperm donation" was not done under the auspices of a clinic, which would have protected William Marotta's anonymity; nor did any court procedures take place to legally confer responsibility for the child to another adult. So......William Marotta, along with technically being the child's father, is also legally the child's father, and therefore liable for child support by Kansas law.

In addition to all of the above dysfuntion, we also have Shannon Minter, of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, feeling miffed because she thinks this will have a repercussion on the rights of gay or lesbian couples in the future. This line of reasoning is flawed. Had William Marotta donated sperm through a bona fide clinic, medically and legally equipped, he would not be the legal parental paternal unit. Or, at the very least, had he moved family law court in Kansas to legally confer guardianship of his biological child to Angela Bauer, and had she legally adopted the child, Kansas would not insist that he pay child support. It's actually quite easy to understand, if one wishes to grow up and be responsible. This is not a gay rights matter at all, this is about responsibility for a child.

Here's one more thing: that three year old deserves a pair of adults (gender is not all-encompassing here) who have either parental rights or legal guardianship; not a bona fide mother, an unknown but existant father who does not understand his parental responsibilities in this case, and another adult who does not truly have rights or parental authority in places like school, the hospital, court, or other countries..... not that this child could get a passport to travel to other countries without showing the sperm doner/father's information to a passport agent......but all kinds of situations wherein a child might need actual parents or guardians can come up over the course of a childhood. What is disappointing here is that none of the so-called adults in this child's life thought about the child, and the child's needs, before playing house and playing sperm donor.

Prejudiced Kansas Resident Who Belongs In Lunatic Asylum

There's a man named Joe Montgomery, who pitched a deep seated concern, out of what sounds like some deep seated racism, about President Obama's nomination for president by the Democratic National Convention. Since Obama was born in Hawaii, and his birth certificate clearly says so, the good Christian folk of Kansas, and Kris Kobach, Secretary of State for Kansas and author of Arizona's extremist "papers please" policies, aimed at Hispanics; are harassing the President from a different angle....they want him off the ballot because his FATHER was born elsewhere. But since the republicans have produced a candidate whose skin is milky white, there has been no notice taken of the fact that Mitt Romney's father was born in Mexico! In Kansas, it's all about the skin color!

 

Take a good, long look at this regurgitated copy of Bishop Romney's birth certificate, people of Kansas. His father was born in Mexico! And do you know why he was born in Mexico? Because his father, before him, wanted the privilege of boffing as many different women as his resources would allow, while keeping them captive. It's a Mormon thing.

 

Is the color of the President's skin really that much of a problem for you, Kansas???

Sergio Celis Sings: What Is Wrong With This Picture?

Hmmm.......perhaps I am being a bit hypercritical here; but, singing in choir at church while one's daughter has been inexplicably missing for just two weeks? Somehow, that does not seem like something one is such a crisis would do. And of "Becky" Celis, Isabel's mom....of course she should pray, and no one would tell her otherwise, but to say that it will bring Isabel home? So far, what ELSE, and I mean what ELSE that happens to be more substantial, has this woman done to bring her missing daughter home?

A Judge Thought She Could Terminate A Pregnancy

Judge Christine Harms (how much more appropriate could her name be?) really thought she could order a member of the public to have an abortion, twenty weeks into term! Apparently, the thirty-two year old woman's parents petitioned a family court in Massachusetts to order her to schedule and abortion and be sterilized because of mental illness! When the case went to court, Judge Harms (still chuckling about the judge's name) heard the case, and went ahead and ordered the poor woman to abort! This is craziness! And how many other such orders has this judge issued while on the bench? This is NOT an intended function of family law court!

The question Judge Harms should have asked, immediately, is "Who and where is the father?" No mention of that appears in any article available, so far, about this case. Could the father be someone close to the mother, who, say......would be embarrassed about such a pregnancy, and not want to take responsibility? Could the father be someone in the mother's own family? We may find out, since Judge Harms's order was overturned by the Supreme Court. It seems that everything about this ruling seemed wrong, very wrong, from the assumption that this woman could even find a doctor willing to abort a healthy twenty to twenty four week old fetus to the assumption that she, herself, could make the determination concerning the baby's right to a healthy birth! Thank the Gods that someone here had common sense!

It looks like Judge Harms has flown the coop, in the wake of all this bad publicity. According to Yahoo News, "Harms, who recently retired, could not be reached for comment Tuesday." No doubt.

This is not a meaningless clump of cells and DNA. This is a baby. Even from a pro choice standpoint, one should not wait five months to abort a healthy baby. It is also no one's personal privilege to decide which healthy babies get to live, after healthy birth, and which healthy babies must die, after abortions performed under extreemly questionable circumstances.
