Ten Years For Miranda, Life For Marysville

To follow up with some earlier posts on this site about Miranda Cain, the Marysville, Kansas teenage madam, it seems apropos to state that on Tuesday, Citizen Cain appeared in court, after pleading no contest to the charge lodged against her, and was sentenced to about ten years in prison. This is a bit sad, as the arrest took place within weeks of Citizen Cain's graduation from high school. But then, Cain trafficked an eighth grader, whom she met at school, for sex; this is the sentence one might expect.

This leaves some unanswered and very unsettling questions about the city of Marysville and Marshall County, Kansas. Marshall County has only about 10,000 people; Marysville has about 3,200. This makes Marshall County a very small community. Most of the small towns within Marshall County are not home to even as many people as were in attendance at both of the high schools attended by your ever-lovin' blogger; 1,500 students in one school, and 2,500 in the other. The school that had 1,500 students was considered a "small" school. There were students in both of these schools who drank, used recreational drugs, fought with each other, got pregnant, and skipped classes. No one was perfect. At the same time, however; yours truly was able to find friends at both schools who did not do any of the above mentioned things, but just went to class, did their homework, and otherwise led normal lives. The "problem children" were actually in the minority, not the majority. Most of them also had enough sense to straighten up and fly right by the time they graduated. At no time did yours truly ever encounter a teenage madam, pimping underclassmen! In fact, such a thing was unheard of! Keep in mind, these are schools in the suburbs of a major city on the East Coast, yet.......no teenage madams. It would not have been well received or accepted, and prosecution would have taken place without any expectation of favoritism. In the tiny city of Marysville, Kansas, there were some folks, arguing both in favor holding Cain accountable and against holding Cain accountable, who thought that Cain would not actually go to prison, because of "small town politics". Why would anyone think a thing like that, when human trafficking, prostitution, and trafficking a child for sex, are all against the law? It's almost as if..........some people have lived lives that are so isolated and removed from the real world that they think state and federal laws do not apply to them! That's a notion from which Marshall County should really try to recover. Kansas is in the very center of our great nation, and is not in a very good position to secede, in order to legalize teenage prostitution and all the other unlawful things a lot of Marshall County parents allow.

Back to those unlawful things Marshall County parents allow; a second question is brought up, here. It really seems extremely unlikely that a high school senior would wake up one morning and think to herself, "Hmm. I need money. I also enjoy taking risks and having fun. I wonder how many of the junior high kiddies would like to sell sexual favors to railroaders and others who travel and use local hotels?" Your blogger is of the opinion that an adult hand maneuvered in this whole situation, somewhere and somehow, giving Cain the idea and helping her "advertise" her services. While the sentence of ten years for Citizen Cain's role in this operation is appropriate, the fact that no one is asking about others involved, or even if others knew about it, is disturbing. She could not possibly have managed such a "business" alone. How could a high school student involved in very serious crime escape the notice of all of the adults with whom she came in contact? And who were the adults who knew about this? There must have been at least a few. Didn't this raise any eyebrows before the police put a stop to it?

Citizen Cain is not the only high school student in Marshall County, Kansas who has either committed or been involved in a serious crime. Frankfort High School, also in Marshall  County, had three arrests during the 2014-2015 school year, and three of its students and one of its alumni caused a serious accident by drinking while driving during the summer of 2014. In fact, the graduating class of Frankfort in 2015 had only one child, out of twelve or thirteen children, who did not drink alcohol or use recreational drugs. A child in that class would be literally unable to surround himself with children who are not involved in crime at one level or another. A community that is demographically as small as Marshall County, which has schools that have fewer then 150 students, in some cases, should not have any problems keeping control of the schools or the students. So, where are these students learning these behaviors, and why do they think that crime is "normal"? Has Marysville or Marshall County taken a look at itself? Miranda Cain grew up in Marshall County, for the most part. She is a product of the community. How did the community produce this situation? If Marshall County refuses to seek an answer to that question, the factors that created the elements of the question will only repeat themselves.

Child Prostitution In Marshall County Kansas

"Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!!!
If you think you and your family are perfect then maybe you shouldn't even be worried about other peoples business. You do not know all the facts nor do you have the right to judge anyone. Innocent until proven guilty!!! I wonder if others judge you the same as you judge others..."

Above is a comment that was sent to this site yesterday, concerning this post, describing Miranda Cain, the teenage madam in Marysville, Kansas who was arrested for pimping an eighth grader from her school to a stranger. Yes, you read that correctly. There are problems in many schools across the nation, but this one is a bit unusual.....and we should all probably be thankful for that! But on the other hand, that makes the small community of Marysville famous for presenting serious danger to children.

The person who wrote that comment was not thinking about the child whose life may, very well, have been ruined by this whole mess. The comment only defends Miranda Cain, and does not consider the safety of any of the other children. No one is important to this person except Citizen Cain. Nothing else, from the well being of others, particularly children, to the quality of the community matters to the writer of the comment. This is all too common in Marshall County, Kansas.

Citizen Cain was a Marysville High School student who had been recognized for "distinguished service" (the term takes on a new meaning in Cain's case) by the administration of Marysville High School. She was one of the students who was touted as a "good example" for others to follow. This is disturbing. Contrary to the opinion of the writer of the comment, it is extremely important that everyone in Marshall County be aware of Citizen Cain and her pastimes. The administration of Marysville High School told other children to follow the example of a person who is now in jail, awaiting trial for sex trafficking. Parents were led to believe that their children were safe around Cain. Now, at least one child's life has been ruined, and that's only the child about whom we happen to know. It would come as no surprise to hear about more. Since Marysville High School has administrators and a school board who reward such behavior handsomely and assist students who are involved in crime in gaining scholarships and grants for college, while normal children get neglected; it is abundantly clear that without public conversation about this issue, administration at the schools in Marshall County Kansas will continue to sweep student crime under the proverbial rug and lie to parents forever, if they can get away with it. Yes, it is important to talk about this. It is also important to stress that human trafficking and child abuse are wrong. It appears that school boards in Kansas do not understand this. It also appears that school boards in Kansas do not understand that prostitution is against the laws in most places.

Inasmuch as "innocent until proven guilty" goes, the Marysville Advocate described the evidence in the case against Miranda Cain in rather explicit detail, and it looks as if the case is strong. If Citizen Cain is averse to pleading guilty, she will probably invoke her right to a jury trial. As for "living in glass houses", the comment assumes that a parent must somehow be perfect before protecting his children from human traffickers and other icky influences. This is error. Whether perfect or not, every parent has a responsibility to protect his children from students like Miranda Cain and school administrators who tell children to follow Miranda Cain's example! Sometimes, these decisions are not popular in places where immoral behavior IS popular, but this is one of the reasons why children should always be taught to question authority and never to blindly follow a crowd.

One more thing; when a student who has the carte blanche approval of school administration is apprehended while trafficking another student for sex, it is everyone's business. Hopefully, the writer of this comment will come to understand that every parent in Kansas, or who merely passes through Kansas with children in tow, needs to know about Miranda Cain. It is the business of everyone, now that it is public information. When a county of less than 10,000 people has a problem with human trafficking, awareness becomes the business of everyone. If Citizen Cain's position as part of the problem, rather than part of the solution hurts someone's widdle feelins', too bad! Shouldn't Miranda Cain's victim(s) matter just as much as Miranda Cain matters?

One More Item For My Kansas Troll

Oh! I almost forgot, Local Kansas Troll, there is one more little thing about which you need to be reminded. While you kick and scream about a disabled child receiving what you call "handouts", (he really doesn't, this is in your imagination) you have a man entering the local public school on a semi-regular basis who used to be a bullfighter. Since he does not fight as well as the bulls against whom he was matched, he got hurt. He is no longer to able to work and win bread as a bullfighter. He also has a lot of experience winning bread as a cashier. Since he is still able to win bread as a cashier, he has been told by the gentlepeople who determine disability that he should go do that, and cease his pleas for disability payments. I quite agree. And don't talk to me about pain, because I worked for many years with an average hemoglobin count of 6.5, before my type of anemia was diagnosed. No disability for me, either, but I never asked for it. No one in this little town seems to have a problem with him, his unofficial, unethical, and unrequired presence in the school, or his wife's constant pimping of Avon products at the school or at the local Methodist church. In my world, this type of profiteering in these venues is disgusting, and in the wonderful world of Jesus Christ, it should not be going on at all. Remember what he did to the tables of the merchants in synogogue when they sold animals to people who had gone to synogogue to celebrate holy days and pray? Check the gospel of Saint Matthew. Also, try to keep people who serve alcohol to minors away from the rest of the children. That's uncool for many reasons, no matter where you stand on prohibition laws.

Here's a link to a story from Georgia about a woman who used food stamps to shop at a Krugers grocery store with her preschool daughter and was told, "Excuse me for working for a living" by a manager at the store. This woman is on kidney dialysis and has been on a list for a transplant for five years. Do you and Jesus hate her, too? Let me show you a picture of her. I don't think she should starve because of her disability, and I don't think her child deserved your ugly sentiments.

Update: I was informed, via the grapevine, that the former bullfighter DOES get disability, my lovely troll. Yet, his girth is wider than yours and mine put together, so we KNOW he is well fed, and he has all kinds of prescription pills. His aches and pains, probably not as real as he states, are brought on by something he personally chose to do, not an illness he contracted or inherited. Some of those prescription pills may even be consumed by persons other than himself. Yet......you have no problem paying for his expensive government handout, but you have a problem with a disabled child???? I'm so glad I starting sharing your comments with people who do not drink the local koolaide! Have fun with Jesus. If he's really the guy Saint Matthew described, he's not in agreement with you.
