Kansans Who Pray

Sickening. A house session in Topeka started with a Christian prayer. Not a generic prayer, or well wishes toward everyone, Christian and not, but a prejudiced, nasty, christian-slanted, insincere prayer, meant to intimidate anyone who does not see the world from within the confines of Kansas.

Here it is:
"Father James Gordon of St. John Vianney in Maple Hill, delivered the prayer, saying, "We ask you to strengthen our understanding of traditional marriage: one man and one woman. We ask you to bring us back to virtuous morals in society, morals that kept us from killing a child in the womb through abortion.
"We ask you to defend us now in the fight for true religious freedom and freedom of conscience, that seems to be threatened now in the public sphere."....Kansans United In Voice And Spirit

Can anyone say "Pharisee"? As in St. Luke, chapter 18? As in "Hi God. I know I'm better than others, who see and do things differently. That's why Jesus loves me more, and that's why slavery, discrimination, human trafficking, corruption, child pornography, deceiving the general public, and the destruction of the planet at the expense of the poor, and eventaully at the expense of everyone is okay with you, as long as I'm the one who does it. Thankyou for making it okay for me to sin." That's my interpretation of Father Gordon's lawless "prayer", since it was unlawful of him to pray in such an instance, and would have been much more respectful of him to just decline, and "render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's, and unto God that which is God's". Our taxes are NOT paid to favor any religion, and Gordon was favoring his own. As for "understanding of traditional marriage", perhaps that could be aided by setting an example of respect, which Kansas did not do today. "Virtuous morals" are something Kansas has never truly had. Neither has the rest of the country, or the rest of the world. We don't need to bring those back, we need to bring those in for the first time! And if Father Gordon is truly worried about "religious freedom being threatened", he needs to shut his mouth. By using his religion as a tool against others, he is a bigger threat to his own religion than any other person's lifestyle or ideas.

Luke 18:11, The Pharisee's Prayer; "The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector." A few months ago, Mike O'Neal , (R, Kansas) also did some praying and sent some very spiritual emails to others, calling upon his "Jesus" figure to "make Obama's little girls fatherless"! If "Jesus" actually feels that way about Obama's children, or anyone's children, wouldn't the world be a better place without him? Just some food for thought, Kansas!

I'm not sure your analysis follows. He said nothing about "better than" anyone. He asked for a true understanding. So, if his understanding is prejudice, he's asking God to grant him that understanding. He asks for defense in the fight for religious freedom. He doesn't say anything about attacking the other side, or that the other side gets hurt. If we can't bring all issues to God in prayer, what kind of God do we have? Let God lead us. If you disagree, you're arguing against prayer in the Legislature, which is a different topic.

I guess my "soft analysis" concerns the reprehensible biases that are really going on in his head, as the prayer would never have come out of his mouth in the first place if the man was not prejudiced against the Gay culture, women, and everyone whose perception of Love does not include christianity. Mine doesn't. I was not only brought up, but TAUGHT, by my Dad, to understand that Christianity is the opiate of the masses, and a very convenient tool for them to turn to when they need an "opiate" to block out any pangs of conscience that might naturally occur after they superceed a parent's authority, break up a family, start a war, molest a child, rape a woman, destroy the future a brilliant student who isn't christian, and commit murder. That's what the religion does. It brings no one closer to any god.

And I am arguing against prayer in the legislature. It does not belong there, and my taxes should not pay for closedminded men to pray for a return to a time when Blacks were unwelcome to vote and women were unwelcome to enjoy equal pay and compensation in careers that are male dominated. His rhetoric does not represent me, and hopefully does not represent all Kansans. Why does he have the floor to influence our lawmakers in this way?
