You Meet Some Of Your Best Lovers In Church

Oh goody. A senator from Arizona, Sylvia Allen, stated, hopefully in sarcasm, that everyone should be ordered to attend a church on Sunday, in order to "restore morals" to America. Where, oh where, is the eye-rolley when I need it? Where?

Senator Allen feels that America is in a state of moral decay, and needs religion to "get back it's soul". Get it back? From when? The days when we used slave labor, and engaged in human trafficking in order to bring slaves here? Perhaps she would like some soul back from the days before there were any child labor laws, or before women were allowed to vote......maybe the morality involved in the denial of financial support to divorced women with children, or the morality of racism.

Perhaps racial and gender equality, combined with fair wages and decent schools, and the repeal of prohibition in favor of spending more dollars on the prosecution of violent crime, and equality and justice from the judicial system would be a start in helping this nation find a "soul" in the first place. Not that your blogger isn't grateful for the country she calls home, but lets be honest about whose souls have traditionally mattered in America, and whose souls have not.

I Suppose It's Palm Sunday

I know everyone has already seen this on Facebook, and I'm sure Jesus is very proud of those of you who go to church. Have some of you christian clergy supporters considered alternatively calling this "holy day" Rosy Palm Sunday, in commemoration of the body part priests should be exercising, along with common sense and decency, instead of abusing children?

White Man Yellow

Here's one of the reasons I don't care much for Christianity. Historically, the murder of adherents to religions that have been collectively labeled "Witchcraft" by zealous and hypocritical Christians has been accepted, and encouraged. Even in the advent of laws changing, so as to allow injunctions against murder to include lethal violence against victims other than White Christians, the laws are often selectively applied in order to continue to marginalize certain minorities.

Last month, a New York man named Carlos Alberto Amerillo beat his girlfriend and her daughter to death with a hammer, then called the police to let them know he had "assassinated two witches". He actually met law enforcement with a bible in hand. No real problem there, just two witches dead. He'll pay the price in the judicial system, but get rewarded in heaven by jesus, right?

Amerillo is probably mentally ill, but there are churches who actually teach their congregations to believe that there is a god who conveniently does not value the life of any person who is not associated in some type of conformity to the christian religion. Mix that type of intolerance with mental illness, and violence is often the result.

As a result of Amerillo's violent attempts to please god, a seven year old girl, the grandchild of his deceased girlfriend, is now an orphan.

If You Missed Church This Sunday

If you missed church this Sunday, perhaps you were in New Orleans, with Jessica Ahlquist, who successfully petitioned the Supreme Court and got an old rug with a superstitious prayer taken off the walls at her school, at the American Humanist Association, this past week. After the award of a check for $40,000.00 at the Reason Rally, in Washington D.C., she has also won the Humanist Award this year. What an honor for her school, Cranston High School, to have such an intelligent, tenacious, and creative winner in their student body! A public school should be very proud to have such a student in attendance. Most of the students at the school have shown struggles in contemporary issues and communication, but Jessica is capable of understanding the Constitution and enlisting in the help of our judicial system to uphold it. Now that there is a void in the spot once occupied by the old, silly, Christian prayer, perhaps Jessica will go the extra mile and get her Tarot cards read by Jesus while she is in New Orleans, and bring back a banner that looks like this! To the right, is a rendition from a deck using Golden Dawn symbolism as interpreted by Edward Arthur Waite, and others, of the Heirophant, which symbolizes conformity. This looks like it would make an interesting banner for the hallway at Cranston High! It's obviously an artist's conception of Jesus, so it should make all the Christians happy! Maybe she will bring back some other religious odds and ends, too, from New Orleans, such as the ones pictured below! That way, the school's thirst for religion will be quenched, and everyone might actually learn something!

Congratulations, Jessica Ahlquist! If your school does not recognize your talent and intelligence, they should.

If Church Was Not A Priority This Sunday

Here ya go. Could the mainstream Christian world cope if others behaved as many Christians behave?

If You Skipped Church On Christmas

Not too long ago, I came across this. The author gave me permission to use it. She would love to see Lisa Irwin found.

I am not particularly religious, and I do not think it is necessary that we all subscribe to the same religion. I do; however, think these beautiful young activists have something to teach us. Have a great holiday, everyone!
