Here it is, Moonlight; the song I told you about a couple of days ago. Today, another young person told me that she had "always been told" that it is unlawful to protest war in America! I asked her who told her that, and she couldn't tell me. The lack of knowledge about our Constitution is becoming a bigger danger that any of the things we protest.

Kansas Used To Have Cooler Signs

Instead of the overused Christian message, "God hates fags", and Jews, and politicians, and entertainers, and many, many others, Kansas once had people who actually cared about the world living within it's borders. Here is a picture that was taken in 1967, during the Vietnam War, outside of the City Building in Wichita. Where did all those informative signs, and the creative sign painters, all go?

Kansas Public School Teachers Protest

Governor Brownback, of Kansas, was met by a small group of protesting teachers in Hays one day last week because he recently signed a bill into law that he hopes will help redistribute funding for Kansas public schools more equally among school districts. The bill has some language and clauses that allow tax credits to those of us who do not use local public schools, and strips public school teachers of their tenure and due process if they happen to get fired from their jobs. Normally, I would be inclined to sympathize with the teachers, but not here in Kansas. My children do not attend the local public school, Frankfort, part of USD 380, because a teacher abandoned my fourteen year old daughter four miles away from school, and when he realized she was lost, did nothing to find her. He went home and had dinner, thinking she could find her own way back to Frankfort. No worries about my daughter being slowed down by an accidental injury, a bee sting, asthma, or an unsavory stranger. The school responded by failing to fire this teacher, and failing to make any changes to ensure safety at school. For this reason alone, I find the tax credit for families that home school and removal of tenure for Kansas public school teachers only fair. Another reason why I think public school teachers in Kansas do not deserve tenure is the way some of them treat children and parents. Below is a rather ugly message sent to me by a teacher who thought she could remain anonymous online. She was attempting to pressure me to vote for a candidate she favored in the 2008 presidential election, and in the 2012 presidential election. She also got very angry with me for enlisting the assistance of the ACLU in the enforcement of Abington School District v. Schempp, which gives children the right to learn in school, unhindered by religious pandering.

"Oh Miss Juli! Once again you just crack me up :) If Mitt doesn't win this election you can pretty much kiss the USA goodbye, but then, you would really like that, wouldn't you? You are the type that doesn't really give two shits about the flag, thinks God doesn't belong....ANYWHERE"

Nowhere else have I had interactions with public school teachers who engage, unsolicited, in disagreeable discourse about politics and elections! A post on this site and a bumper sticker revealed my political leanings to this teacher, and she was unable to stop herself from harassing my children and me! This is actually in conflict with the Constitution, which allows me to vote for the candidate of my choice, and for this reason, it pleases me greatly to see teachers a little bit closer to the unemployment office when they fill their salaried hours with activities other than teaching.

Note: Lemme clarify something about my last picture right here; there isn't a problem in bearing a love child. The problem arises when we pretend to be holy, when in fact, we are not.

Don't allow questions to go unanswered by those who should have answers, but refuse to share them. And don't be part of what deserves protest by failing to protest, and turning a blind eye to injustice.

 

 

Evolution Of A Kansas State Objections Board Meeting

Here are the minutes of the State Objections Board Meeting, held in Manhattan Kansas this morning, by Kris Kobach. The meeting was held to determine the authenticity of the latest "birther" complaint about President Obama, lodged by one Joe Montgomery, of Manhattan, Kansas. The tweets were made by Chad Manspeaker, of the City Council in Manhattan, and were printed by the Topeka Capital Journal.

9:42 a.m. | Orly Taitz, who has been called the “birther queen,” has indicated on her website (www.orlytaitzesq.com) that she intends to attend Monday’s hearing. She is known for combative speeches and making incendiary claims.
9:40 a.m. | The objections board scheduled Monday’s meeting in response to a Manhattan resident who objected to Obama being on the ballot. The meeting was set before Joe Montgomery dropped his challenge, citing animosity and intimidation.
9:32 a.m. | Community activist Sonny Scroggins says he has been protesting at the secretary of state’s office since 7:45 a.m. He said he is joined by seven others.

Looks like the meeting was a regular career maker for ole' Kris Kobach. It also looks like he does not get to run anyone out of the country today, and does not get to take away my choice of candidate in the upcoming election.

 

More On Occupy Wall Street

Seven hundred people got arrested yesterday during the ongoing march in New York to Occupy Wall Street. This has not been getting much press, and I think that's because no one wants to give the marchers or their messages any attention or thought. It looks as if they are not going anywhere, though. I am encouraged to see different groups, different individuals, and different ages of people, with different messages for the banking industry and corperations. If we do not hold these people and institutions accountable for what they do with EVERYONE'S resources, who will?        

                                                  

Here's the police, probably wondering who to arrest and who not to arrest. Once again, I don't see any media covering the event. But then, there hasn't been any violence........Below, we have older people occupying Wall Street, as well. According to Micheal Moore, this is more likely than originally thought to take place in other parts of the country, as well.

"Seasoned activists said the ad-hoc protest could prove to be a training ground for future organizers of larger and more cohesive demonstrations, or motivate those on the sidelines to speak out against injustices.

"You may not get much, or any of these things on the first go-around," said the Rev. Herbert Daughtry, a longtime civil rights activist who has participated in protests for decades. "But it's the long haul that matters."

I'm not sure what to really expect, at this point. It might be interesting to invite Mitt Romney to speak at one of the events taking place under the auspices of Occupy Wall Street, though. His position that "corperations are people" could finally get the perspective it deserves to give the votors an idea of what his platform is all about!
