I'm Brenda Kidder, And I Resent This Message

What a week for Terri Horman, sometime step parent of Kyron Horman, who disappeared from his second grade class in Portland, Oregon, in June of 2010! It seems that a non-profit organization called Shangri La, which serves disabled and otherwise vulnerable adults and children, hired Terri Horman to work directly with persons who have physical and mental disabilities. The fact that Terri Horman continues as the main focus of Kyron's missing persons case and that there is a permanent family protection order barring her from any contact with her former husband and daughter did not matter to Shangri La. Neither did Terri's employment
history, which included termination from a teaching position because she was abusive toward an autistic child. This raised a few eyebrows in the surrounding communities, and phone calls were made, by concerned citizens, on behalf of the clients of Shangri La.

Early last week, some flyers with Kyron's picture and contact information for law enforcement were placed near Shangri La's Eugene campus. This should not have been a problem; pictures of missing people and contact information for law enforcement are often posted in public. Shangri La responded to this by sending some of it's employees out and about to take Kyron's pictures down. Later, one of them personally stated to a volunteer that Kyron's pictures were somehow "hurting" Shangri La's clients! When the flyers were replaced, Shangri La called police, but police determined that the public display of flyers bearing pictures of missing children is not a crime. Not satisfied, Terri Horman attempted to persuade the court to grant a "no stalking" order against Stacey Green, an activist from a neighboring state, but the court declined, asking Terri Horman if she would be terribly offended if she was asked to take her silly-assed problem to the office down the hall. Okay, maybe they didn't say that, but we know it's on everyone's mind!

Yesterday, Terri Horman resigned from her most auspicious position at Shangri La, because there were flyers bearing Kyron Horman's picture on display within her line of sight. Could there be a more dumbass reason to quit one's job? "Hello? Prospective employer? I resigned from my position at my last place of employment because I didn't like some posters that were placed at the bus stop and at the post office near the building." How ridicules will that sound? Terri obviously isn't interested in maintaining employment. What's even more bizarre is Shangri La's response to the Oregonian, when a reporter telephoned for verification. Brenda Kidder, Shangri La's director of development and community engagement, (they should just change her title to "emperor of ice cream") verified Terri's resignation, but also said "I resent this message." Oh well, Brenda Kidder's not running for office, so she is not obligated to say, "I approve this message!"

Shangri La, Baby

Does anyone remember a time, about three years ago. when Terri Horman, sometime stepmother of missing Kyron Horman, who was last seen on June 4, 2010, thought she could find another teaching position?  No school in Oregon, public or private, was willing to hire Terri Horman, but a non-profit organization called Shangri La, which serves disabled and disenfranchised people in different parts of Oregon, actually hired Terri to be a "mental health specialist". She will render "mental health care", probably as a glorified orderly, to children with intellectual difficulties.

As Terri Horman was the last person seen with Kyron before he disappeared, law enforcement was particularly interested in her testimony and timeline on that day. Instead of coming forward with pertinent answers, Terri gave vague and conflicting answers and took two polygraph examinations which yielded results that indicated deceptions when compared against her baseline. Then, there were allegations about Terri conspiring to have her spouse murdered, and four years later, she attempted to change her name to that of a foreign national whose appearance is similar to hers, but this was not permitted by the court. In addition to all of the above, Terri Horman was discharged from a teaching position at an Oregon elementary school because she was unable to co-exist peacefully with the children she taught. All of these "items" would serve as reasons for your faithful blogger to dispose of her resume by way of the circular file, if she answered a classified advertisement, but Shangri La, evidently; is of the more daring variety of employers. At the very least, Shangri La should be able to see that Kyron Horman's missing persons case is still under investigation, and Terri Horman was actually referred to as a "de facto suspect" by a judge who presided over a related case. At any time that the "powers that be" decide to alter her "de facto" status to an active status, pending changes in the investigation, this will bring swarms of police officers of all stripes and temperaments, from all directions, to wherever Terri Horman may physically be located at that moment. If life at Shangri La is truly so dull that such excitement would be welcome, that may be a consideration, but can anyone's liability insurance countenance such risks?

Shangri La has been quite rude in response to questions posed by the general public about taking such risks. What they appear to have overlooked is that the disenfranchised people in their care have rights, along with those from whom they seek donations. Most donors to charities do not donate with the expectation of watching the very people who should be helped by donations become callously endangered and abused, instead. Just something for Shangri La to consider, while it works out new liability insurance rates and develops a linguistically pleasing answer to the queries of any visitor who recognizes Terri Horman.

Private Message

I have some very bad news for a certain welfare recipient. It was in the paper this morning! It seems you may no longer be free to collect certain benefits within a certain, Midwestern state and continue to move from place to place without employment. An honest effort to secure gainful employment will very likely be required in the near future, as the only reason it was not required was a waiver which was granted to the state. Quite a few of us know that the real reason you never settle down is an attempt to avoid having your welfare benefits stopped when you refuse to go to work anywhere. It's easier to hitchhike to a different state, and try to collect benefits there, isn't it? Kansas isn't gonna let you do it anymore. Enjoy job hunting!

Reason Number One For Consolidation Of Kansas Schools

Kansas never ceases to amaze me with it's stupidity. The public schools in Kansas are not consolidated, which means that each "unified district" has a local school board that is not answerable to state or national standards, or to the state or federal authority, and can force any decision they please on children and parents, be it lawful or not. They can even hire sex offenders and kidnappers if they choose! We now have a Sedgwick County former coach, who was caught in an internet sting, attempting to solicit sex from a fifteen year old, demanding his job as a high school football coach back! Unfortunately, Todd Puetz (it really should be Todd Putz) was allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of soliciting sex from a prostitute, and now, since he was not convicted of more serious sex offenses or required to register as a sex offender, his lawyer says he is "entitled" to his job as a high school football coach, and is fighting to somehow force the local school board to engrave him another invitation to endanger children!

Most of us would find this whole request, and the obvious best response......telling Mr. Puetz that he need not apply again.......to be a no brainer. After all, he was fired immediately after his arrest for sex offenses, the local school board did not wait for the trial or the disposition of the charges. As Kansas law does not guarantee a person a job in the event that his services are no longer relevant, and his contract violation(no abusing or molesting children) was proven by his admission of guilt, even though he made a plea in court to a lesser charge, there is a tradition in the unconsolidated, unified school districts of Kansas of covering up the misdeeds of teachers and coaches, and telling the victims to go to hell, because they don't matter. At the other end of the state, in Marshall County, a guidance counselor at Frankfort High still collects taxpayer dollars to endanger children by dropping them off by themselves along highways. The parent who almost had a heart attack over it was told by her local school board that this should not be a cause for concern. If schools in Kansas were consolidated, the laws against child endangerment would need to be followed at each and every public school, and there would be no local school boards protecting political favorites. A thug, such as the guidance counselor in Frankfort, would not be allowed to continue employment in a public school. In fact, the school's insurance should not be allowed to cover this employee any more than an auto insurance policy can be written to cover a driver with fifty DWI's. Child abuse is child abuse, and this guidance counselor committed child abuse and got away with it because Kansas school boards are unsupervised and do not answer to the state. They only answer to themselves. If they do not care about a particular child who has been abused by a teacher, they will generally not lift a finger to stop the abuse. Kudos to the school board who will not offer Todd Puetz his job again. This is an amazing change of pace for Kansas.

Most Kansans fight tooth and nail against consolidation of their schools. Brown v. the Board of Education in 1956 was quite a shock for the quietly prejudiced white population of Kansas, and keeping schools unconsolidated is quite likely a deliberate attempt to continue to keep schools as racially and culturally segregated as possible. Unfortunately, unified districts also have a lot of latitude to violate almost any law when running Kansas schools.

Obama Believes In Paying Walmart Employees Enough To Live

This is one of the reasons I voted for President Obama. A job at a place like Walmart is no guarantee of health insurance, enough money for food to feed one's family, or enough money for a babysitter, should a worker's supervisor refuse to adjust the worker's schedule to accomodate caring for children. Every underpaid worker represents support that is required from government programs that should be available from wages through employment. In the cases of many Walmart employees, it isn't. Like it or not, Republicans, America's population is large enough to require a certain amount of government and socialization.

Terri Horman, You Have A Message

Someone left some spam for Terri Horman under this post today. Since I am not in the habit of publishing spam, I will not publish it, but I will say that it recommended ten things a job seeker can do to increase his chances in the job market. I was mildly disappointed, however; that among the ten things an applicant should do, none was "cleaning up criminal record", "clearing oneself of criminal suspicion", or "returning all formerly kidnapped children to their families"! I'm afraid the ten generic suggestions will be of no real use to Terri Horman!

These two pictures squashed together spell "thug extraordinaire". Even if Terri Moulton Horman is not using this as a cover page for her resume, most perspective employers, especially in the teaching field, and other jobs involving children, for which Terri has a degree, would not hire her. If Terri Moulton Horman suddenly found employment at a school, I imagine parents would protest as soon as they discovered her identity! She still has not cooperated in the efforts to find her stepson, Kyron Horman, who went missing from his school in Portland, Oregon, on June 4, 2010. Below is another picture of Kyron.

How's The Job Hunt Going, Terri Horman?

For the past week or so, I have gotton hit after hit to this site searching for Terri Horman, sometime step parent of nine year old Kyron Horman, looking for a job! In June of this year, I posted about that very thing. Terri Horman moved back in with her mommy and daddy several weeks after Kyron disappeared from his school, and has attempted to stay away from everyone else, including her two year old daughter, ever since. This has not made her look innocent.

I have not been able to find any updates about Terri finding employment. I had just assumed that she had given up. Not that she has to. If Terri Horman is not guilty of playing any role in Kyron's disappearance, all she has to do is become honest about what she actually did on June 4, 2010, and pass a polygraph. Then, any testimony she gives that might be helpful, would, I'm sure, be appreciated. That might not stop everyone from looking askance at her, or make parents feel comfortable about Terri's "classroom presence", as per her chosen field in teaching, but she could find a different profession. If Terri never wants to cooperate or if she is, in fact, guilty, making liscence plates may be her best career option.

The online searches for Terri Horman and aspects of her life, such as employment or marital status, which would otherwise remain private; by curious members of the general public, will probably stop when Kyron is returned safely. Just some food for thought, Terri.
