Is It Now Legal To Impede Law Enforcement?

Interesting. The Bundy Brothers and their entourage have been acquitted of any wrongdoing in the charges against them, stemming from their standoff with federal officers earlier this year, in Multnomah County, Oregon. For just under six weeks, Ammon Bundy and some of his family and friends engaged in a standoff with the federal government over the right to use land at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge for ranching. The Bundys thought ranching and all of the farm waste and trampling of plant life by cattle was in order for the wildlife refuge, and government officials told them to ranch elsewhere, preferably on their own property. They chose, instead, to threaten police with guns and stay there, making a giant mess, for over a month. Now they have been acquitted.

There are two reasons why this is outrageous. First; most people who threaten cops with guns end up either dead or serving prison sentences. Why is this group different, and why did a jury think threatening a cops with guns is okay? Second; Bundy and Company made a terrible mess. Below is a picture of part of the mess they left behind, when they were arrested in February of 2016.

Another question some people might ask is whether or not it is now legal to question authority in the ongoing conflict involving the Dakota Access Pipeline. On Thursday, police arrested 141 people, Native Americans and environmentalists, who protested in North Dakota because the crude oil pipeline will go through water supplies and burial sites. Police have been brutal toward protesters, regardless of whose land is involved. Why do the Bundy Brothers get to stage a standoff, while others cannot even exercise their first amendment rights?

In Case You Skipped Church This Sunday

The first thing that a certain undersheriff here in Marshall County, Kansas, and I disagreed upon was actually a lot more universal than it was personal. It concerned the presence of weapons in Northeast Kansas schools, and the fact that rifles and shotguns occasionally tag along to school in vehicles driven by students who hunt on mornings before school starts. The cop thinks that because he goes to church and votes republican most of the time, a gun in the hands of a younger student (mind you, many of the schools in Northeast Kansas go from kindergarten to high school because the schools are not consolidated and there are not many students) would not create the mayhem here that the same weapon would create in the hands of a younger student opening an older student's vehicle and finding a loaded gun in a "blue" state. I reminded him that religion and politics would not affect the outcome of such an incident, and that if anything like that ever happened, I would be on the phone with all the major newspapers immediately, informing them of the conversation he and I had just had. This was before this happened, involving my effort to help a Marshall County mom get her mother to care for her children after she had been arrested, and also before this incident, when the county attorney wanted all of the witnesses for a case she wanted to try in court to testify her way, instead of telling the truth. Would you have heard a message from the pulpit, if you hadn't skipped church, about Jesus voting republican and telling concerned parents to relax about children taking guns to school?

Happy Birthday, Janis Joplin!

Happy Birthday, Janis Joplin! You would be seventy years old today, if you were still with us! Yes; you are an inspiration to us all! I mean.....taking musical instruments to school in your backpack in case you needed to burst into song at an unpredicted moment in time? So much better than taking weapons to school....didn't any of the adults in your life understand that? Peace and Love; that's where it's at!

Thankyou for everything, Janis!

Publishing The Names And Addresses Of Gun Owners

A newspaper called the Journal News, in New York, has published the names and addresses of many of the Westchester and Rockland County gun owners in their paper. Readers were stunned to see this, and many people do not understand what the Journal News is trying to accomplish. The Second Amendment gives citizens in the United States the right to bear arms, and if a gun owner is on a public list of citizens who have purchased weapons legally, it naturally follows that the gun in question is owned legally. That said, why should anyone care if their neighbors own weapons or not? If the Journal News is trying to embarrass gun owners, they should save their ink. What they've actually done is inform the burglers, violent thugs, and the local Boogeyman about which houses are not armed, and made the occupants in those houses easy victims.

On a related note, there is a petition circulating the internet to garner signatures favoring the deportation of the CNN anchor, Piers Morgan. Piers Morgan will certainly have to do more than fill the air with words in order to be deported, but it might be effective, instead, to boycott the products advertised on CNN while Piers Morgan is voicing his silly and inexperienced opinion.

Gun Control And Crazy People

There's been a lot of talk about gun control after the school shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary, in Connecticut on Friday. That doesn't surprise, and I suppose it's okay to have a national discussion about gun control, but what about the people who commit crimes with guns? Especially young people who shoot children at school......has anyone looked at the statistics concerning them? The vast majority of offenders in mass shootings in this country over the last twenty years had been diagnosed with severe psychiatric disorders, requiring antipsychotic drugs, BEFORE their shooting rampages. What's wrong with recognizing the problem of psychosis for what it is, and telling people who are diagnosibly unstable that they cannot buy or have access to weapons? And what's wrong with holding parents responsible when they do get weapons? And why have insurance companies and states made such deep cuts into programs that provide mental health care options for vulnerable people within the population? And finally, if someone is a threat or a menace to other people, why can't they be permanantly institutionalized? In Adam Lanza's case, the diagnosis and the warning signs are reported to have been present. His mother made a grave error in allowing him to handle her weapons.

Note To Gun Owner

Someone had a handgun stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in Florida recently. He got it back the other day, with a note about safe storage of weapons. I could not agree more. Please; if you have firearms, don't leave them where children can find them.
